2008 Bmw328xi front speakers replaced
I replaced the stock front door speakers. The new speakers are 4ohm speakers. Everything has worked fine for a week, and now the main audio fuse #14 in the glove box is blown. I put a new fuse in and it instantly sparked and blew, as if there was a fault to ground. My question is, can the built in amp handle 4 ohm speakers or is it strictly 2ohm. I also have an independent 10” amp in the trunk, but it has never been an issue. The only thing changed is the 2 front speakers. I think my son had the volume to high, would this cause a fuse to blow? Kindly Andy

Typically, a higher resistance speaker will draw less power from the amp. That being said, speaker resistance ratings are nominal and vary with frequency. Given your symptoms, however, I would see if you speaker leads have shorted against each other. This would yield zero resistance and maximum current from the amplifier.

Txs again, in my opinion something has to be wrong with the wiring. The new speakers worked perfectly fine for over a week and then suddenly this. I will take off the door panels and investigate.

If you have the base system that has no amp the underseat speakers are wired in
parallel with front doors. Usually you would just see a reduction of volume with higher impedance speakers. One of the easier way to find out what you have or what the car came with is Mdecoder.com 676 = hi fi 677 or 688 = Logic 7 aka Top Hi Fi |

So, I spent multiple hours trying to diagnose this issue. The only thing replaced was the two front speakers in the front doors which worked fine for 2 weeks. I disconnected them and it is still blowing the fuse in glovebox. I disconnected the amp harness in the back of the trunk from the stock amp. Still blowing the fuse. I removed the built in car stock radio, and still blowing the fuse #14. I will have to track down the wiring diagram of everything that is connected to the fuse as I am out of ideas. It’s that or it has to go to an auto electrician to solve.
