Question Quick Oil Change Question

im comming back to the states soon and need to do an oil change. this will be the first time i am switching from oem to elf solaris 5w-30 and have a question.

the elf bottle is in liters. now 1 Liter = 1.05669 Quarts (US). we need 7 quarts (US bottles) for our cars. would it be safe to also put in 7 liters giving me a total of 7.39683 quarts if you do the math.

sorry if such a newb question im always cautions about things like this.

No. You really only need a little more than 6 quarts since everything doesn't drain out (oil cooler hides some), so put in ~6 quarts and than check the level and see it you need more. DO NOT OVERFILL

Neither. Do it yourself. By the oil change kit from Tisher and learn a little bit more about your car.

i did self oil change x2 with oem oil and just like the diy guide just put in 7 bottles (quarts) and when checked on i drive it was fine. 6 quarts seems short...

It all depends. I put in 6 quarts this last time and it was on the middle mark of the check gauge. I think it is best to put in 6, check it, and than add some if you need too. Overfilling is just a PITA.....

I tend to find the happy spot and put in 6.5 qt when I do my oil changes... always ends up perfect when I check the gauge.

You do realize you cant drain the oil out of the oil cooler and out of every possible spot in the motor. I put in 6 quarts this past oil change and the oil gauge reads right in the middle.....

I believe the manual says 6.5 quarts.....thats what I put in. Leaves me w/ half a bottle, when the car burns some I have extra to top off. I really do hate not having a dipstick, what a stupid idea.....

oh yeah, do the oil change yourself, its a piece of cake.

Why would you not do what the manual says? I think this is pretty simple here AW.

The questioin here is...Does the manual say that the capacity of oil for the N54 is 7 qts or is this the quantity of oil during a change?
Kyle has a good point that not all of the oil drains in the pan since the oil cooler is still filled up during a drain.

All I have to say is that if I do an oil change myself, I will not overfill.
If I find that 6.5 quarts fills the engine then 6.5 is what I will put in.

I put in 6 qts and check the level. If it still needs more than I add more. Feel free to do what you would like on your car.

+1

I put in 6 qts, check the level, and than add more if needed. This does not hurt the car by doing this.....(obviously)

I think 6.5 is a very safe amount considering what the manual says.
