I drove 2.5 hours to buy 7 used index 9 injectors for £300 off facebook (Yeah. I know now...). 40 odd quid an injector I thought was worth taking a punt. I packaged them carefully and sent them off to Mr. Injector to have them cleaned and tested. This is the service they offer:

Note that they cannot refurbish Piezo injectors, simply test, clean, test again, fit new teflon seal and send back. I figured I'd get some good, some bad.

All 7 failed the test so were scrap.

Good news is that in that case they charge a fixed fee of £35 to cover their time (not £35 per injector).
I probably spent close to £400 to achieve this result.

After crying for a couple of days I decided that I needed to buy a new injector to see if it cured the problem: if I didn't I'd always be wondering ...

So spent £350 with ML Performance for the injector, plus about £10 for the decoupling element. That's still £100 cheaper than Cotswold.

So moral of story: forget used injectors, go new. And - given the exhorbitent cost - I would only ever replace leaking injectors individually. As I said before, this is an old car and an SE at that: any slight loss of performance / wonderfulness that I suffer from not having matched indexes will be lost on me. As long as it doesn't misfire and fuel economy is OK ish that's good enough for now.

Mr. Injector was good to deal with. They emphasised how delicate these piezo injectors are and were at pains to point out that there was no guarantee they could fix them. I wonder if ebay / facebook sellers are careful in their handling - probably not.

The injector I got from ML Performance is a BMW part with a 2 year guarantee. If was dispatched from Arnold Clark Kirkcaldy BMW. Not sure how they do it for £100 less but hey ho. That's Cotswold's loss.

Arnold Clarke is Harry Fairboirne - they deal direct to public, they have always been better to deal with IMO than cotswold..

Now I see you did!..

Bimmer proffs have a pretty good write uo on adaption reset and what to do as well...

It will show a link to the flywheel bit set... so you can check that if you brave enough to do it again

I didn't actually mean to "Delete All Adaptions" as I meant to just delete the ones (that I reckoned) relate to the engine running. Anyway I ended up deleting all. I won't be doing that again...

If you are getting lean codes its worth do a vacuum leak test... it could be something simple causing that.

Check you adaption value additive on those cylinders --- +10 i think would indicate vacuum leak.

Be aware there is a vacuum feed to the engine mounts..

Could be butt dyno working overtime, but doing the throttle reset definitely made my engine perform differently...

I pulled all my injectors, cleaned them and changed the seals. Installed them so the bank one has index 3s and bank two has index 9,11,11. Coded them in and reset the adaptions. Idle is rock steady now so hopefully that stays.

I did notice that carbon had moved passed the seals on two injectors so it’s possible they failed at some point. Worth a look as it may not always be leaky injectors.

I soaked the tips in throttle body cleaner. Makes short work of any carbon buildup.
