Smell of oil in a 2011 335i

My 2011 335i has 100,000 miles and I now notice a smell of oil while I am driving, but I cannot find any leaks in the engine. It started to smoke slightly as well.

What are the common problems associated with this issue such as the oil filter housing and gasket or the head gasket?

I have serviced the car regularly and it has never had issues before. There are no OBD codes.

My independent BMW shop just closed down after the owner retired. So, I will need to find another reputable BMW shop soon.

Probably the valve cover gasket. It usually leaks oil and drips on the cat which causes smoke and an oil smell.

Valve cover gasket oil leak was responsible for my injector foul in one and oil on exhaust in another. And even after removing and thoroughly cleaning the stainless heat shield attached to engine on passenger side it may still smoke for awhile (for much longer if it hasn't been removed and cleaned at time of valve cover gasket replacement).
