I was having the same problem on my 06'e90 318 and we replaced the CCV to start but the problem persisted. In the end I bit the bullet and settled on the valve stem seals being replaced as well. Two weeks on I am still smoke free (knock on wood). The other positive thing from my experience was that I got my timing chain and most gaskets - rocker cover, vacuum pump, sump, vanos o rings etc replaced at the same time to fully maximise the labour costs. Hopefully your problem is minor and don't have to go through the same route i did.

Did you do all that work yourself? Strange how mine didn't use to smoke unless I just didn't notice it before. |

I've got this prob too. Clear codes on a non-BMW code reader.
Gonna take it to a specialist soon and take the advice from above (breather, glow plugs, valve stem seals). |

Leave the car to idle for like 5 to 10 minutes then give it a good rev, if it puffs out loads of smoke I'd say it's more stem seals than anything else. Crankcase breather is a startup smoke issue, same for glow plugs but neither as far as I'm aware would cause smoke from idling the car so it's a simple rule of elimination strategy. Turbo should be easy as well, a failing turbo should only smoke when the engine oil is hot and under acceleration, piston rings (blow by) would smoke constantly.. so taking all that into consideration I'd test when it can smoke and go from there

my 330d has bigger intercooler, dpf delete, mid muffler delete, high-flow turbo, swirl flap delete and egr delete. it currently has not had a tune/remap. it seems to smoke a lot on cold start up it is blue/white and it goes away when warm, but sometimes the engine will go very loud and the turbo is alot louder too and heaps of blue smoke comes out and then will eventually go away. does anyone know what will cause this? and my car only has 160000ks on odo
