Driving like a Hooligan
Is it just me?
I've owned lots of fast cars over the years, but none encourage 'spirited' driving like this M2. I don't know what it is? The instant acceleration, the great visibility, the growly exhaust? All I know is that I can't see my driving permit lasting the year. |

Which is the main reason I didn't go for a custom licence plate.
No need to encourage others to call me in... lol |

I toned things down quite a bit (no more "friendly calls") and my city fuel consumption went from 17 l/100km (about 14 US mpg) to about 12 l/100km and my tyre life with no track days in it went from 7,000km to 15,000km. |

In BC I got a letter once in the mail. Should’ve kept it. Funny, the deputy was saying that a person had called in saying I was following too close and passed them at high speed, and when they passed me back I was smiling and waved back at them. All true. I usually smile and wave back when people are road raging and saying I’m #1… Figured I wouldn’t make it easier for them by giving them an easy plate. Justin’s idea is a good one lol |

It’s not enforceable here, but they have enough free time in Canada to pay you a visit or mail you a letter as “deterrence”. Nothing happens, but the call, visit, or letter does work to make you think about it next time… I know it did to me. For a while. LOL

A state just south, though, 20 over can get you in jail. Crazy.

To my knowledge provinces here don’t generally treat speeding as criminal offences. In my province if you’re 40Km/h over the limit your car gets impounded for a week (a month if you do it again within 2 years of first instance). But it’s not a criminal charge. Some provinces have more leeway with extreme speeds. I don’t think Alberta cares as much, but aerobod can confirm. Never heard of towing there or SK. I’ve seen 110 in a 60 in a construction zone in SK and it was just a ticket. And I’ve had my car impounded here for a week for doing a bit 2x the 80 limit. YMMV I think racing is… criminal offences frighten me, and I don’t think States or Provinces should move towards them just to prevent speeding. One thing is one thing, another thing is another thing…….. speeding should never be a criminal offence in my view. What you do if speeding (killing someone, for example) yes. Then speeding is just an aggravating factor. Driving like a hooligan as the thread says should be acceptable with a G87 hahaha |

Yeah it's interesting. Here too the cops have wide latitude. I was busted for 87 in a 55 (in my daily) just a week or so ago, but the cop wrote me up for 5 over. Small fine and no points. Could have been the bad one I mentioned earlier. It was completely my fault, too, because I ignored the early warning of the radar detector. I was like "meh, false alarm."

In Alberta speeding tickets are more a monetary issue than anything for up to 50km/h over the limit. Typically more than several tickets (doesn’t apply to photo radar) in 3 years will see your driver rating drop and potentially having to use ‘facility’ insurance (effectively dropped by normal insurance companies), which could see rates double or triple that could push M2 insurance up to $6000 per year or more.

My FIL who was a police officer told me if he followed a vehicle for just a minute or two he'd see a valid reason to pull the driver over and even issue a citation. |

Where are you at in PA/what detector are you running that allowed you to pick up a signal when the state cops don’t use radar in PA? |

Nope. You're confusing local cops and state cops. State cops have been running radar (K band) for decades. Local cops have never been allowed to run radar at all, and they're still not. State cops aren't allowed to radar while moving either. I ignored the warning in my tale because of the K band that state cops use..., all of the modern car blind spot monitors and other such devices also use K band, so it's easy to get complacent in PA due to all the K band around. Outside of annoying K band, PA is still pretty "good" from a cop radar perspective due to all the limitations on them.
