Reading all of this, why would OEM be so desirable at all? Why not just get aftermarket Recaros, or whatever?

Don’t really feel like going through Facebook marketplace, eBay, forums and parts vendors to screenshot old sales and prove a point. Average price on eBay is over $10k with a bunch of listings. And those that are only $10k have cosmetic damage. Go search for yourself and make a conclusion. I’ve been following these prices for like a year.
I know a few people personally that have pocketed that much as well.

i dont doubt they are over 10k a set. The porsche fixed buckets usually go for 12-15k-ish on rennlist for a used set. and they were a 5k option from factory.

similar to carbon ceramics on the f80... its a 8k option from factory but like 15k you want to retrofit.

bmw parts pros (forums sponsor) used to offer a complete retrofit kit with seats for 22k on the g80 cars.

The irony that they are not really buckets, but rather recliners.

$22K for a set is a steal. I think the parts department said it was $14,000 per seat.

Technically they are buckets, but so are the standard seats. Any automotive seat that is contoured and designed to fit one person is a bucket seat. A non-reclining would be a fixed-back bucket. Basically anything that isn't a bench seat is considered a bucket.

With those prices, carbon package at $9900 is a great value.

Amen, need mine to get here already

It does suck you had to get the M-drivers package lumped in, $4500 for buckets plus the $2500 or w.e for the roof would have been a lot better.

Agreed, and I personally think the G8X buckets are even nicer than the Porsche buckets. Arguably the nicest production car buckets money can buy. They look better and are more comfortable/adjustable, and heated!

they are nice. but are heavier than porsches due to the heating, being powered, and reclining ability. i do wish they could have made them manually adjustable to dump some weight. the 458 was like that. you could turn a knob on the side to recline.

True. I personally could care less about adding a few pounds to get the heat/power/adjustability. They're the best of both worlds and look the best IMO.

If they were referencing the fact that even the seats in the coupe's of old Japanese cars were considered buckets than I don't know how you could be disappointed. I don't know what they were doing when you saw them though.

Well, they took 20 minutes to give a fan a tree. They also arranged sing alongs.
“Ok, everyone in the back, you sing the chorus” etc. made me want to neck punch myself
But I’m a punk, these are my fav right now

Very good point. Over the years it's become harder to install the Recaro buckets without the electronics going bozo so I just prefer a factory option these days. I miss those days when I could simply throw in a resistor in my E92 M3 when installing bucket seats.

I ordered mine with carbon buckets as I know I can always sell them $5-$10K + swap for “comfort” seats. In my opinion it raises the level of the M2 to have oem electric buckets. Yes the $10K stings a little but going off historical sales, the value is there.
