rear diff seal leak?
Discovered this leak from the front of the rear diff behind the driveshaft. Looks like oil is coming from behind that saucer-shaped grey metal peice and traveling backward.
Is it the pinion seal nut that needs replacing? Or something else? Does the diff need to come down? 2007 335i rwd manual 161k miles, original rear end / diff. Rear diff fluid was replaced a Few months ago / 700 miles. Thanks!

Had the same on mine. I removed the diff completely and dropped it off with a local diff specialist as you need to be able to correctly set the preload when changing that seal which makes it a tricky DIY.
I'd just have them replace all 3 seals at the same time (there's one at each output shaft too). The seals themselves are cheap if you get the OE Corteco part from FCP. |

yeah its the front pinion seal, maybe they overfilled it or used the wrong fluid. I would wipe it clean, verify the level and monitor it and it if still seep probably try thicker fluid or lucas additive to see if it slow down before repair.
