3 STAGE INTAKE On High Mileage N52 Questions!

Guys… I’m thinking about swapping my engine. I have a 2009 328i E92, and im about 4K away from 200k miles! Everything runs strong, but Ive noticed that after a bit of stop and go traffic, the car starts accelerating like it has a huge single turbo with lag. It’s weird given that I’m NA. Any other time, it’s normal. Other than that, wanna start doing upgrades like the 3 stage intake and AA tune. I don’t want to hurt the longevity of an already old engine. Now my question is… should I consider rebuilding the engine, finding a lower mileage n52, or trying to fit the 330i engine?

Here’s a quick picture after a recent wash (I promise the wheel gap is not that egregious in person. I have m sport suspension, but the angle isn’t doing it justice&#128557.

If the additional 25 hp its gonna make with the 3 stage is gonna kill your engine then it was probably going to die soon anyway. It's not like you're slapping a turbo on it or anything, it'll be fine.

I was worried it would hurt the longevity of the car. Everything runs smooth, but no one knows how long it’ll last lol. Would an engine rebuild later down the line suffice? I feel like that’s a better option, no?

(Btw, just installed the aero lip. BEAUTIFUL)

200k miles is nothing. There's a guy on here who has 421k miles on his n52. It'll be fine with an extra 25hp. That will take it to 265hp which is just a stock 330i output anyway.

Your 'turbo' surge could signal the need for new Vanos solenoids or that your Vanos non-return valves need cleaning...

I had a feeling it had to do with the vanos.. but the thing is, it only happens after I’ve been sitting in stop and go traffic for a while, or the car is just really hot. This made me think it was heat soak, but what baffles me is that it doesn’t go away even after the car cools down. I would have to turn off and start the car again to get rid of that surge like feeling.

That’s fucking insane. I’ve heard these engines last a lifetime. Maybe I’m giving myself anxiety for no reason😅. I think I’m gonna update this thread as I purchase and install upgrades. Should be a good way to document the journey of this N52!

Here's another N52B30 with over 630k miles. I wouldn't think that would be on the same engine though.

That is BEYOND insane. Normally only Hondas and Toyotas reach that! With BMWS you only hear about oil leaks. That’s crazy!

This gave me major piece of mind… I think I’m gonna pull the trigger. What all do I need for the upgrade? Where should I get it from? Should I get a tune I can add myself like AA? Should I delete my charcoal filter while I’m at it too? So many questions..😭
