Silicone intake hose worse than stock
BDS claims that silicone intake boots are worse than the stock boot. Their dyno shows a loss of 6bhp and 2Nm with the Mishimoto silicone hose compared to stock. I suppose this supports the belief that the resonator on the stock boot is a tuned Helmholtz resonator and not a silencer.

They are right.
The silicone boot resonates and its shape changes, which slightly affects the air flow. Hard pipe is better, but I don't think the difference is big. |

in my case it gave me negative LTFT, i guess the stock Helmholtz resonator kills some resonance / turbulence that affects MAF readings. Using euro airbox.
Switched back to stock resonated tube, noticed more refined intake sound and honestly no difference at all in power or response. But now normal fuel trims. |

Hmmm, I don't know if I agree. I'm sure it was dyno tested to increase power, and when it comes to intakes, I know Diameter of the tube (and length) play a key role. That tube looks to be smaller than the TB diameter.
When I dyno tested a few intakes (AFE, Stock and Injen) the INJEN made the most torque and was 1whp off from peak of the AFE airbox. I should have stuck with it. |

There were multiple old dynos that showed the silicone boot had increased power.

Koni special active red, eibach pro-kit springs, Remus exhaust, stage 3 intake manifold,Stage 2 AA tune, BMW Short shift kit. Silicon intake pipe. M3 control arms front, M3 rear. ECS trailing arm with whiteline bushings. Purple powerflex subframe bushings. Yellow power flex upper shock mounts. Single mass flywheel OE weight. |
