Creaking sound from steering
Hi, I was wondering if anyone experienced this type of steering creak. It is like a moan when I turn the wheel and seems to come from behind the wheel. Is it the steering column? Please check this video:

I've got something similar but not as loud. It started when my indy recently dropped the sub-frame to fit a new sump gasket. Think that might also involve disconnecting the stringer column from the rack. He will investigate next week, Will let you know the outcome...

Yes please let me know what the reason was for your issue. It's time for my annual service next month so I will tell them to investigate then anyway but still curious.

I can’t see your video any longer, but maybe my post I’ve written in the past will be of relevance here:
https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2010959 Problem was down to worn engine mounts, my steering rack was making contact with the chassis which caused the noise and extra vibration felt through the steering rack. |

Thank you for the reply, but my issue doesn't sound anything like yours. It's just a moan that comes from the steering rack I guess every single time I turn the wheel left or right, doesn't matter if the car is stationary or moving, no matter what speed. I don't know why youtube keeps deleting my video.
Anyway, I will take the care for the anual service next month and will ask them to check this issue for me and update the thread, maybe someone will find it useful. |
