Is the radio antenna powered?
I put a aftermarket radio in my 07 328i and the wiring harness didn't come with any color code. I am only able to pick up one radio station that is about 1 miles away. I have been looking but I can't figure out if the antenna is powered and what wire it is.
Thanks |

Antenna circuit is a bit confusing in TIS since you have to meld 4 or 5 different circuit diagrams. The short answer to your question is yes, the antenna (Aerial Diversity, A421 in TIS Schematics) IS powered via ONE of two different fuses, F18 (5A) OR F34 (5A) IF you have the E93. Here are the two TIS Circuit Diagrams for F18 & F34: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...8-fuse/kKS0pVn https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...4-fuse/jMyHImE Here is the TIS diagram for "Radio Reception" showing the various antennas connecting to Aerial Diversity (A421) and its connection to the Radio (N9). NOTE that there is a Black wire from Pin#13, X13812 at the Radio that connects to Pin#3 of X1143 at the Aerial Diversity, and that provides a "Radio ON" signal to Aerial Diversity. The ANTENNA/AERIAL input to the radio is via shielded cable at Pin#1, X13344 of Aerial Diversity: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...eption/fuiy4WV Here is the Radio (N9) TIS circuit diagram, which shows the shielded cable FROM Aerial Diversity connecting TO Radio at X13816, Pin#1 (only thing at that connector): https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...-radio/iHp5P7N Here is the rear view of the radio showing connector locations, with the Antenna/Aerial Diversity being at the lower-left of the diagram, X13816: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...lim/1VnYdk3HNu Please let us know what you find, George |

So pin 13 must some how be turned on to turn on the
diversity module. Plus power is applied to the diversity module with the car awaking . |

My car was made in October 06. I have already installed the radio and been using it for a few months. The only problem I have had is the radio signal. I installed a universal steering will controller last week. I will try powering pin 13 using the 12v remote turn on from the radio. Thanks for the help.

A) POWER TO AERIAL DIVERSITY (Fuse F2 for E90 Sedan): https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...2-fuse/u46cYm1 B) Radio Reception, Aerial Diversity (A421): https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...eption/fuiy4WV C) N9 Radio: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...-radio/shuzctH I'm not sure we are understanding each other. Your initial post asked if the Antenna (Aerial Diversity) is POWERED. I took that to mean is battery voltage required to make it work, and the answer is YES. For later 2007 models, the Aerial Diversity is powered via F18. For YOUR E90(?) built October 2006, it is powered via F2 (see first link (A) above). If that fuse is bad, you have virtually NO antenna (just the "dead" shielded cable). So check for 12V+ at Pin #4, Red/Violet wire, of Connector X1143 at the Aerial Diversity (A421). I understand that the radio IS sending a "Radio On" signal to Aerial Diversity Pin #3, Connector X1143, but that just turns the Aerial Diversity ON, IF it is powered via F2. There is a similar "Radio On" signal sent to the Amplifier (A18). Please let us know what you find, George |

I think we are talking about the something but looking at it differently. My previous car had a amplified antenna and required me to connect a remote 12v wire from my radio to it so it could power on. And that's what I'm trying to figure out on my e90. It sounds like the e90 doesn't require it and I don't have to hook anything up to pin 13.i will check my fuse and make sure it's good. Thanks.

Same problem
Hello,
I have same problem. e93 2007. Aftermarket android head unit doesn't power on the antenna. With the original radio, voltage on the pin13=12V. With the aftermarket radio, Voltage free this pin. Maybe have I to provide 12V from the yelow wire to this pin 13? |
