Scratched my car!! HELP!!!

I wonder if the following is repariable. If so, what product do you use and how. Ziano? Scratch-x?

At first, i was thinking using the touch paint, wet sand and buff method. Unfortunately, no BMW dealer has the SG touch up paint in stock. I found out that BMW had a problem with the label (or labeling system) that they have not release the touch up paint, not until july :mad:

long story short,

I try to park my car this morning, but ended up being too close to the garage door frame, so my front left bumper scratched it.

I already try using on the scratch removal product, it doesnt work.

Sorry to hear that!
I guess you need to repaint it.
If the scratch was on the door, you could use scratch remover.
Since the scratch was on the bumper(plastic), it is hard to remove.

This makes no sense!!!! Paint is paint it does not matter whats under it!

From the picture it looks like you have gone through the paint. If this is true your only opinion is a repaint.

i'm afraid i have to agree with the rest of the guys. this doesn't look like something you can just buff out, you'll have to take it to a body shop.

Unfortunately, that looks like a candidate for a body shop repair instead of a do it yourself repair.

Thanks for all the inputs, the pictures seemed to be a lot worse than in person. I guess i will repaint my bumper or change to M-Tech when i get more scratch on this one.

I would try to buff if out first and see how much gets removed. You might be surprised with the results and might be able to live with it... As for the best product to use, I have no idea...

I dont know about the touch ups because i never use it once in my life, i was going to following these instruction to repair IF it is doable

If you have a PC I'd certainly want to try that (or a rotary is even better). Is your garage trim painted white? If it is I'd be curious to see if you can buff that off first. I might look better for a while anyway. I have to agree with the others - it does look like a repaint.

I had something similar on my bumper although it was a hit and run - and not as bad... I used Meguiar's scratch-x and it all came off... but I think it was a surface level scratch with mostly the paint of the other car. You may want to try buffing it out with scratch x as much as you can and then see if you can tolerate it. If not, then it's repainting the bumper.

Thanks guys for all the inputs. I actaully talked to my SA today when i brought my car for the 1st oil change

at 5500 miles. They said he will ask the body guy see if they can just body sand that portion (cost would be around $100). If not, they are charging $495 to repaint the whole bumper. If that is the case, i will wait til i have a lot of scratches on my front bumper and get it repaint. On the other hand, i want to try the buff method, but unfortunately, BMW has not yet release the touch up paint yet. I will wait til then and see.

I thought rotary will damge your paint becasue they are focuing on one spot and generate enough heat to damage the paint. Yes, my garage trim is painted white, i already applied a scratch remover product to the surface, that pics are taken after that is done. So whatever on there, i cant remove it with scratch remover. Yea, i think repaint would probably be the case, but i just want to mess with it first before i repaint the bumper (if it is cheap, haha)

It looks like it'll need a repaint, however I agree with pander5 - you would be surprised sometimes what you can buff out, especially if there is paint transfer. It'll be interesting to see how the wetsand/polish from the shop comes out. Here's a buff job I just did on a TL that hit a barrier, the before was taken after the paint transfer was clay'd off, so it's all scratches.

Sure, but the initial outlay of cash for the tools would probably pay for your repaint. On the upside you would have detailing gear to last you quite some time. Products I used:

Porter Cable 7247 DA polisher
Orange Lake County Pad
White Lake County Pad
Optimum Compound
Optimum Polish

Process was Optimum Compound on the Orange pad via porter cable, then Optimum Polish on the white pad via PC, wiped down the polish residue with alcohol and water then re-sealed the panel with Menzerna FMJ.

Another note: I've been doing this ~9 years, so there is a learning curve, although a PC is very easy to use. If you want more information please let me know. Best of luck.

Yes, the rotary is an advanced tool but I mentioned it in case you a.) had one and b.) had some experience using it. Not a bad idea to let the dealer body shop guys take a crack at it. I've have some limited experience wetsanding and you'd be amazed at what that might do also. Have you tried the old fingernail test i.e. does your fingernail catch in those grooves? If so, paint is the answer.
