Driver side HiFi system driver side odd audio issues: head unit, speakers or amp?

Hey friends,

Got the following issue; was hoping maybe someone here could assist me.

I have a 2008 E90 LCI with the HiFi system (PL2 amp) & CCC. After installing an Andream Android 10 625/4GB head unit about 2 years ago, I had no audio. Replaced the wiring harness with a new one after getting support (man that was a struggle), and now the audio works on 75% of the speakers (rears & passenger side speakers). However, the front left driver speakers (subwoofer, tweeter & mids) haven't worked since; no audio on regular use, but when I set the balance all the way to the front left it sounds really quiet (and the rear speaker crackles terribly). Sometimes when I switch to the original CCC screen (i.e. change some settings, radio, etc.) the navi audio comes through all horrible on the left front speakers, giving me the idea that it's some weird issue with the HU and not with the amp/speakers themselves. Sometimes the audio comes through the left front speakers before I open Spotify on the android head unit, and the quality is absolute garbage, but goes back to the other 75% of the speakers as soon as Spotify starts up. Also, when calling through the head unit the audio only comes from the front left speakers and again, is horrible. It also appears as if the volume cannot be controlled properly when it comes from the front-left speakers during a phone call.

I read online that some Chinese HU wiring harness have switched the left front channel and the left front ground messing stuff up. Anybody have any guess? Sorta clueless here as how to debug this issue. Would also hate blowing replacements up (if they are blown right now).

Hope there's somebody that can point me in the right direction!

Thanks!

Voltmeter original configuration and schematics.
You need to know how to trace wiring to fix this stuff
That means back out of the install
Anything that comes through Aux is garbage .
Hi Fi system is weak in the first place.
Always check for water on the amp first in a BMW
with and Amp.

Chinese head unit's are generally unsupported garbage.

Hey ctuna,

Thanks a bunch for responding!

Just spent some time playing around. After removing the HU from the equation and reconnecting the original harness, the crackling of the rear left speaker goes away but unfortunately the front three speakers incl. sub are still really quiet and only make a little noise tuned to the radio with the balance to front left at max. Would you assume that means a bad amp?

I'm not too disappointed in the Andream HU sound coming from my other speakers, however I've been told by my wife I'm tone deaf anyway. So there's that. However, I would really like to have the driver seat sub back at least...

No water near or in the amp, fortunately

PS. last google link you linked don't seem to work for me

You can get the Hi Fi amps for usually less than 100 US on ebay.
You can measure the speaker resistance from the Amp connector
which has a one lever disconnect at the amp .

The speakers on the bad side should not measure that different from
the good side.

Also if you where playing with the Head unit are you sure the Head unit
connector is seated and no wiring has been damaged during the install.

Thanks for the advice! Decided to just order a replacement amp to debug that avenue first - like you suggested; don't have a multimeter at hand anyway. I'll post an update when it arrives, thanks for the help thus far!

You are trying to do this with a blindfold on if you can't use
a multi meter.
