Acceptable cost for a turbo repair?

Hello, I got two turbos from my BMW X5 E70 30sd that need their core replaced (fins destroyed) and I found someone who would repair, balance and clean my two turbos for 550 USD. Is this an acceptable price?

relative to body work and paint care. try posting in your specific model section. maybe there are others that have made this similar repair. looks like youre in croatia? costs may not translate well from here to there

Thanks for the suggestion. I'd just like to compare if I paid too much or I paid a fair price. Get peoples opinion on the matter if possible.

This really depends on what "repair" they are doing and who they are. Can you tell us who it is? How much experience do they have in this? A turbo is not something that can be refurbed carelessly or with "close enough" type solutions.

Depends on who’s doing the repair - reputable well-established shop? Or some flat brim vape bro who also does window tinting and stereos? Big difference.

I'm guessing they replace the CHRA with another center section and replace any seals there may be, swap the wastegate over, etc

Must be for that price. Sounds too good to be true and exclusive of labor to R&R the Turbos! I say RUN FOREST, RUN!

You have to remember, labor cost in other countries don't always relate to US rates. I'm thinking the rate may be half the hourly rate of Shimmy23's guestimate.

Looks great! As long as they're using the same CHRA this is the best possible outcome. It's when they try to replace singular pieces like just the broken wheel that you're likely worse off. Let us know how it ends up!

It looks good, but it's all about how it performs.

Im from the same region. Turbo repair is normally ½ of new item price. You get some 6 or 12m warranty. But since noone (except some expensive refurbisher) really calibrates (ballances) the turbo it can all the same be done by yourself. The core is 100usd (when from china) or 200usd (european). Gaskets are cheap. Its an 1hr job (of course if the casing is not damaged).
