N52 engine differences?
So i was reading up on the different versions of the N52B30 and between the 325i, 330i, and E70/E83 X5 3.0si, there's variations in horsepower using different components.
325i is producing 215bhp +330i uses DISA 3-stage intake to produce +40bhp to put at 255bhp X5 uses... what? to get that extra 5 hp? Euro model 330i and 530i are getting 268bhp... According to Wikipedia anyway, they use different backpressure mufflers to achieve difference... do you think that's the case with the X5? Different exhaust? And what about Euro? no way that air box is helping get +13 hp to that engine... unless it's the better gas. |

We measure HP differently.

I would guess european cars have more hp because the EU has different emissions requirements. It's been shown via dyno on the US 325i/330i that a CAT delete adds ~15hp which would reduce back pressure and match up with euro numbers.

Euro 330i has an N53, not N52. It has direct injection and no Valvetronic.

I'm pretty sure my 325i '06 has the N52N which afaik is rated to 217/218hbp? i got the 2.5L version afaik, not sure how to check it though (produced 2006/12)
EDIT: Also i usually just run on 95 octane, haven't noticed any difference with the (102+ octane) shell vpower. Even though the fuel is rated differently i honestly can't say i feel a difference |

European 325i has 3 liter engine since March 2007 for E93, September 2007 for E92. 325i has N53B30-U0 which is detuned N53B30-O0 used in 330i. N53B30-U0 has 218 bhp (160 kW) @ 6100 RPM, N53B30-O0 has 272 bhp (200 kW) @ 6700 RPM. Both engines have 4 cats but produce more emissions than US models.

The North American BMW 3 series cars also have an extra charcoal filter placed in the air intake (for U.S. emissions). The european 3 series do not have this filter. You have to cut it out to remove it from our cars. Its only purpose is to prevent fuel vapors to escape. Perhaps its good for maybe 1 to 2 hp? Not sure??

Euro E87 130i N52 has 258hp, im sure its same as 330i N52. i guess extra set of cat and more restricted intake contributed to the 3 hp decrease.

euro cars from 2007/03 are made for western europe countries with low-sulphyr petrol with N53, but also cars made for eastern europe, asia, south africa, south america, china, japan and so on had N52 instead
