320i Track Build.
I am just going to use this forum as my personal notebook. I bought a non-running 2007 320i with the intent of turning it into a track car. It will stay street legal and mostly low-budget. There are no power adders available for the N43 so I am stuck at 170hp forever, leaving me to concentrate on weight reduction and setup tuning.
I bought some corner weight scales, and the car was almost dead on from the factory with a 205# driver and a half tank of fuel. I did a couple acceleration tests, a 2nd gear pull from 40-90km/h and a 3rd gear pull from 60-135km/h. I wanted to take shifting out of the equation, but get a good idea of how the top half of the rev range behaved. 40-90 km/h: 5.29 seconds 60-135km/h: 13.07 seconds I will probably retest these after I do some meaningful weight reduction, but it is always going to be a slow car and I won't be adding any power. It is more for my own curiosity than anything else. So far the only "Performance" part on the car is a set of Hawk HT-10 pads on blank rotors. Since this is not a US spec car, I had to do some part number research on the brake pads. Turns out my pads are the same as the US spec E82 128i, so I ordered pads for that and the worked just fine. I plan to do some testing with brake temps to see how well these are suited to the conditions. Up next I really want to get started on the weight reduction so that I can get the coilovers installed and get the car aligned. I want to have the corner weighting at least pretty close before I pay for an alignment.
