Lane departure

Hey folks,
Tried turning on lane departure (and I know many folks turn this off by default, but I prefer it on) and can’t seem to get it to work. Set feedback intensity to its highest, but can’t feel it at all (as opposed to my X3 and 135 which felt like driving over rumble strips).

Anyone have a similar issue?

Take it to your local dealer, something similar happened to me back in 2018, and it turned out to be a warranty issue requiring part replacement.

In road - should definitely be on. I’ve just brought home the car last night, so will test further. If faulty back to the dealership I go!

Great let us know. It only activates after 70km/h if I’m not mistaken, so mind that

Edited 2:20 MST.

Please read my earlier post on this. It is working but the warning on your G87 (and mine) is far less noticeable than our pair of F22 and your other cars where the wheel vibrates vigorously. Took mine in for service and ride with the tech. He said motors are working and a slight vibration (emphasis on slight) is felt. He believes the system is working as intended. I called BMW NA and received little satisfaction. Despite setting on “high” in the G87 it is a useless feature IMO and I won’t drive with “lane correction” operating. No thanks.

Did you sit with the Genius at the dealership to sync with your app and go thru all the settings and set up your fob(s)?

I believe the systems vary between the F & G series. On my F87, I could feel more of a vibration on the steering wheel, and when I got the G87, turned on lane departure and kept adjusting the intensity since the feel was different. The G is more of a gradual "pull" on the wheel.

Definitely not the same experience.

I complained in multiple BMW customer surveys how intrusive the lane departure system was.

My dear Mr. Burns,
I believe the lane departure warning is a valid safety feature if for nothing else a distracted driver is made aware of a potentially hazardous situation. Defeating it is optional and one should do it if so inclined.
Now as to the lane correction feature, once again no thanks.

This system scared the shi! out of me back in April, two days after buying the car. Nearly ripped the wheel out of my hands in the rain. There was a short left turn lane on a straightaway. It was natural to drive over short segment of painted stripe, but the system decided not so. I keep it off.

Exactly! I want to be in control with AI or Big Brother thinking they know what is best (especially with all the idiots on the road down here).

So to clarify, let’s lane assist and lane departure warning. I’m looking for the latter. I DO NOT want the car to steer on my behalf, but rather vibe the wheel.

That being said, I’ll try the lane assist as well to see if it works, or an issue with the system in general.

There are different settings. You can have it set to vibrate when you change lanes or turn without turn signals. You can also have it set to vibrate when you turn on your turn signal to change lanes and another car is in the "zone".

Thanks for the input everyone! I went out last night to validate functionality for some of the driver assistance systems.

Lane departure warning
Confirmed this works, albeit vibration is significantly more subtle than my prev BMWs (even after setting intensity to its highest setting). Probably takes some time getting used to discerning normal road input vs driver aid feedback in this particular car.

Steering Intervention
Confirmed works. Gently nudges me back in place, “gently” being a relative term, compared to my wife’s Ioniq which basically gives us whiplash.

Blind spot detection
Confirmed works as expected.

Thanks again!
