New e91 owner!

Hi all,
Thanks for all those who helped my search for a solid car!

Last week I picked up a 2010 e91 xdrive that ticked most of the boxes I was looking for:
-Auto, Silver over black, Logic 7 sound, Comfort access, parking sensor,
-82k miles, no accidents
-2 owners, including same owner for the last 10 years. Always dealer or high quality indy serviced.
-Just had oil pan gasket replaced (score!)

The PPI came back clean except for needing new rear shocks sometime relative soon and a mild leak on right front axle seal. I keep my cars relatively stock, so will likely go OEM vs Bilstein B4 all around. Will change transmission fluid and brake fluid then too (just had PS fluid changed in last 1000 miles). I'll get those all sorted in the spring when my summer car comes out of hibernation.

My first quick DIY will be the windshield washer pump replacement. Ordered parts from ECS. I am amazed/appreciative of all the great DIYs on this site!

I’m making some minor changes:
-Changing out the silver interior for wood (personal preference, although I know many favor silver here)
-Changing out the 16 inch wheels (I have a lead on some OEM style 185 wheels with snow-rated all season tires that I think would look great with the silver body)
-Refreshing the interior with new buttons and replacing the worn center console cover

The only unfortunate thing is that the car only came with 1 key fob. One question is whether anyone has been able to source/program a Comfort Access key/fob without going to the dealer. I called some automotive locksmiths locally and they all said that the dealer is the only option here. Anyone know any other options?

I end up getting mine from thebmwminipartstore.
Mine has no comfort access.
It was cheaper than any local dealer and key got activated without any special tools.

Welcome to the Long Roof Club!

I have a set of wood trim that I removed from my 2010 E91 in favor of the brushed aluminum (personal preference, I am one of those that prefer the brushed aluminum). I also have a center console cover in very good shape - I put on one of the sliding/split covers. Interested in these items? If so, I'm open to offers.

Schweet!! I found out the washer pump on my E90 was cracked which caused it to leak out most the fluid after a handful of uses.

If you find a hairline crack on your pump just blow it out with compressed air and fill the crack with 2-part epoxy. Mine has been good for 2 years now after doing just that.

Bummer- I already got both of those from eBay. I will learn to check this forum first next time!

I will see what I find. I will just replace it while in there- the part was cheap on ECS, so I’ll take care of it while in there. I’ll inspect the pumps for the headlights and rear window while there though.

I saved $$ by sourcing my Bilstein rear B4s from Summit Racing rather than FCP. I also found the shocks hardware kits and tubes on Rock Auto for savings too.

Nearly every shop price matches so when I find it cheaper else where I always call to get the adjusted price.

Welcome to the Collective. You will find this site is very helpful and will for the most part go out of their way to help you with any issues.

Reminds me of the E30 community back in the early 2000's.

I found the worst part was removing all the hatch trim panels just to get to the silly top of the mounts.

Welcome and congrats!

Rear shocks are super easy. As has been said, the hardest part is getting access to the top nuts/mounts as they are under a bunch of plastic trim (oh the travails of a wagon-owner ;-) ). Just go slowly, use a set of trim removal tools, and you'll be fine. There are Youtube videos (from the UK, of course) that show you step by step how to proceed.

I would suggest changing out ALL of the hardware when you're in there, including the lower shock mounts. FCP sells a whole kit.
