4x4 and dct failure e91
So my 320xd has started to give 4x4 failure and dct!
Have changed and register a new the battery Changed the oil in the transfer case I’m using carly and it gives 2 codes to the problem: 005EC0 Steering angle sensor adjustment Oil wear Vtg awd limp mode If I just drive around in the city it doesn’t come on but if I drive like 10min on the highway it comes on? And turns back off when shutting the car off and leave it for 30min or so.. |

When the battery is disconnected, there will be awd limp mode code stored. If you have an OBD scanner, just clear it and see if it comes back.

No carly does not have it, but that is just something I’ve been changing, the oil wear code have been in the car since I bought it 3,5years back, the 4x4 fault and limpmode has been coming a month ago. But I wrote it down cause i’ve read that the SAS and dct can have someting with the transfer case to do. The wear oil code sure should be cleared, but i dont belive the problem is solved with that.

OK. You should check the SAS calibration then.
That said, the calibration after a battery change involves simply moving the steering wheel lock to lock. On level ground, start with the wheel in the center. Start the car and turn the wheel all the way to the left, hold it there for a couple of seconds. Then move it all the way to the right, hold for a couple of seconds. Then again all the way left, all the way right, bring it to center. Drive forward 100m or so and the 4x4 light should go away. Rescan and clear codes. If that doesn't do the trick, you'll need ISTA to run SAS calibration or check whether it's working properly. BTW, it's the "clock spring" thingy behind the steering wheel on the steering column. |

I’ve tried that one too! But as I wrote in my main post: it doesnt get any codes when I start the car neither in citydriving, it only pops up (and stays on) when driving on highway or 80km/h in my region

BTW, you should do it asap. Essentially, the car is saying "hey, I don't know where the steering is pointing, so I'm turning off DSC since I have no clue how to help you when you get into a skid or slippery situation."
So, all may be OK on dry roads, but when you get into a situation needing ABS and DSC, you may get very unexpected dangerous behaviour. I'm not running panic alarms, just get this resolved quickly before you find yourself in a situation needing DSC. |

Do you actually have to leave ignition OFF for more than ~ 10 seconds to restore normal function? I have both INPA & ISTA, but have never had an SAS fault or occasion to "Recalibrate" SAS. Bentley Manual has ~ a dozen statements: "Carry out steering angle sensor adjustment using BMW scan tool", WITHOUT any indication of exactly HOW that is done, or what "Tool" is used. If simply turning Steering Wheel to "Full-Lock Left", then to "Full-Lock Right" once or twice has NOT extinguished the DSC warning light, AND if Carly has NO SAS Calibration Function, you may need to visit a shop that has ISTA or other "BMW Scan Tool". You may ALSO have some other fault (such as periodic "Over-voltage" that is scrambling bus communications. That is why you should carefully review FF Data/ Fault Details for 5EC0 Code BEFORE throwing parts or spending money. I can't tell if you just included DSC/DXC & VTG faults since those were only warning lights, OR if those were ONLY fault codes in ANY Module. If there ARE fault codes saved in other modules, THOSE MAY be relevant to your SAS issue, particularly if "Communication" faults. So please advise of Fault Codes (hex-codes) in any other Modules. Can Carly clear VGSG/VTG Oil Wear fault code? If using "Clear Codes" function does NOT, try "Reset VTG Adaptations" if Carly has that function. George |
