Fair point but in most cases it really won't do damage unless it falls somewhere specific like the drive belt. Especially if you found it on the rad support, and with the hood down it usually locks the tool in place, it's not going no where or scratching things. I forgot tools a few times on the rad support there only to find them next time I opened my hood

The last step before closing up is to do a visual inspection for connections, caps, lids, tools and any foreign objects left in the vehicle. There are some tools if left in the wrong place can do damage if the hood is closed on top of it. :/
If you do that on an aircraft it's a pretty big deal. You can get written up for it.
