N53 Injector Success & help needed!

So I bought a new-to-me 2010 N53 325i late last year and after only a few weeks it developed a misfire on two cylinders.I stopped driving it apart from small distances (to the mechanic, shops etc) as I heard that this would cause more problems.

- Tried forte injector cleaner to no avail.
- New bosch plugs and coils, didn't solve it.
- New NGK plugs as I read that bosch are no good for this engine.

When my mechanic took out the bosch plugs, the front 3 were coated in black soot. It had been started up and driven into his garage so i suspect this was fuel that had leaked from the injectors.

Pulled the codes which confirmed that 1 and 3 were misfiring. At minimum I would need 3 injectors. I got quoted £1850 from a specialist and £1600 from a BMW dealership to change cylinders 1,2 & 3 to index 11 injectors. This seemed a bit silly as that's a quarter of the cars worth so I decided to buy some used injectors of eBay, new teflon seals and new decoupling elements. Replaced them this weekend and coded them to the car.

The misfire is now gone! No more "put put put" and it sounds a lot better to drive.

Happy to answer any questions.

The version of INPA I have did the trick but it's in German and as such is a nightmare to use. Is there a good version of INPA that anyone can share with me? I've tried a few different ones from various forums and they're either:

* In German
* Missing the N53
* Missing the injector coding options.

I do still have a NOX sensor code so that's going to need fixing next. NOXEM, new NOX sensor... What's the best option for me?

Cheers

Well done with the used injectors. I hope for your sake they last! I've read mixed views on NOXEM. When my sensor went I replaced with OEM. But others may feel differently...

Thank you mate, me too lol.

Noxem seems quite expensive and Id rather keep it OEM tbh. A couple questions for you:

1. When did you replace it?
2. How much did you pay?
3. Where did you get it from?
4. How easy was it to change?

Will probably just order it and do it myself to save the wonga

1. When did you replace it? Several years ago. The replacement has lasted well.
2. How much did you pay? So long ago it wouldn't be relevant to today's prices!
3. Where did you get it from? Genuine BMW part.
4. How easy was it to change? Done by my trusted indy.

I would go NOXEM, I had the NOX cat aging code which can't be fixed unless you go NOXEM. I read lots of stories and was reluctant but I cannot complain... my car has run like a dream since and my fuel economy has improved by 20%.

Yeah I just approached BMW who said one new NOX sensor will cost £497… that’s just for the part So I’ll probably look at getting a NOXem.

I cleared my codes a few times before changing the injectors but each time after about 10-15 mins of driving it’d throw a misfire code for 1 & 3 as well as the NOX electrical code. No NOX cat aging thing just yet.

Finally got round today to changing the oil and clearing the codes, so with any luck the NOX sensor is fine and was just detecting an issue with emissions due to the misfire.

You want to use INPA with the 2.023 loader as this is the best for N53 (download it from Bimmerprofs)

You also want to get ISTA to do the injector coding.

You should also do a full clear adaptations, and follow the process for a relearn.

Legend, thanks for that. Somehow I managed to find INPA on every other site but Bimmerprofs lol.

As for ISTA, do I really need it? I believe I already coded in the injectors. I made a note of the two numbers on each injector and went into the injector coding menu on INPA, typed in the two values (i.e 57.1 & 2.30) and after a week of driving it there are no more misfires

Unfortunately, that's not the end of the issues as like I said the NOX sensor needs replacing as well as the valve cover which seems to have developed a crack.

If you use inpa for injector coding then go ba back and check it - it doesn’t always work with inpa so provided you check the values you should be good.

That aside ISTA is go to for many things not least full workshop manuals and torque so it’s well worth getting
