I'm not sure where your from, but I take my BMW to BestTurbos based in Oldbury, they're specialists in BMW turbos and the guys there (Lucas and Martin) are awesome people. They'll take pictures and talk you through it all if your sceptical, they offer free diagnoses and 2 years warranty on parts and labour and of course as Rasa said this could be the perfect excuse for some Hybrids! Glad your getting it sorted though mate, you don't have AA parts and garage cover do you? they put £500 towards any repairs and you can tell them where to drop it off as long as they're VAT registered, I got mine dropped to best turbo and cost me £220 after AA sent £500 cheque for a new turbo, seals, service, intercooler clean etc |

Yep already discussing going hybrid with uprated intercooler and downpipe. Should be good! Always a positive to come out of a problem lol. Also, will def. install an LSD to make sure the power is put down well.

Also, I am talking to ecotune in Glasgow. I've heard good things about them so lets see. I'm in Manchester but willing to make a long trip if needed! Nice one though. Not got AA though...that would have been nice! |

how did this go? did the hybrid turbo fix the smoking issue?
I have a constant blue smoke once warmed up with lots of oil from the breather pipe. the blue smoke eventually passes with lots of WOT or lots of fast revs, but comes back. I had the turbo replaced with a recon, and it's still there. Questioning the turbo. I've done the VCG and replaced one injector that was showing inpa as 2.2 on WOT. still nothing. Keen to know if this is all resolved? |

Think you're on my other thread too - yeah, breather changed, put a provent 200 in too, VCG done as per TIS Turbo has been changed, but no difference. Thinking it's either headgasket, rings are worn or valve seals. |

Next oil change use this..... https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F350796977188
Has had great reviews on the whole. Worth a go if you think its worn rings or scored bores etc... Know one person personally who said it cured his issues of excessive blow-by.. |

So yeah, I got the hybrid/new intercooler/custom downpipe/remap from Ecotune. so far, all good, no blue smoke. In general car has been running very well aside a puff of white smoke at startup and then disappears.

I might be reviveing an old thread but a lot of people who seem to have the same problem are here so I wanted your opinions.
I am having the same problem, as in when i accelerate and the turbo goes in effect a massive black cloud appears from the exhaust, I investigated a bit more and there seems to be a leak from the small connector from the crankcase breather to the intake pipe to the turbo. I changed the crankcase breather and noticed my crankcase breather is completly empty with no loo roll or vortex filter, should i buy one? I was also suprised about the amount of oil that came out of the intercooler when i disconnected it. I have a mapped car which has an output of 300hp and haven't checked the valve seals. So i was now wondering is it the crankcase breather or the turbo leaking? Is it the valve seals? What worked out for you guys? |

The connector your referring to is the small 3 inch hose or so from the valve cover to the cold side intake? If so yes I'd imagine you'll have unburned fuel as the MAF located at the top of the cold side intake will log the correct amount of air only for you to lose some half way past the MAF. So fix that first, then check for turbo play, you should have slight movement up, down, left and right as we have a floating bearing and that play is taken up with oil pressure when the engine is started. If the compressor wheel touches the housing or moves in and out its gone. |

Sorry for reviving the old thread, but I think I am having the same issue as you guys. I am getting a lot of oil on my (what seems to be) turbo outlet, which is then dripping onto the red intercooler hose and onto my driveway. I have attached some pictures as i just started noticing a leak. It also seems as though the right side of the outlet pipe isnt even bolted in like the one covered in oil which is probably giving me boost leaks. Bought it a week ago from a guy who supposedly took it to the dealer everytime an issue came up. Can this be the crank case breather?
