CFP does financial planning for clients

CFA is primarily used by analysts and portfolio managers working for banks, insurance companies or money managers.

You work for John Hancock?

I thought there are pretty generous sponsoring CFA exams. I have a few friends here work in Boston, and they all get the sponsorships.

Good luck studying. You will get your result in Feb, and if you hassle enough, you can take Level II at June, 09.

Level I is quite easy, so don't panic!

If you really like finance, I am sure you will be fine.

No doubt it is a life commitment, and you really have to dedicate yourself preparing for the exam.

But the good side of this, many doors will be open once you have the result ready.

You are luck because you live one of the most active financial cities in the world.

Mutual Funds, PEs and VCs are everywhere in Boston!

That's encouraging...I'm definitely ready to make a serious commitment to study for this.

As to some doors opening, I'm definitely banking on it (heh heh )

Sponsorship? The exam costs less that $1000. If you can't swing that, you probably don't have the experience to make a CFA worthwhile.

CFA pass rate is low because there is an increase in ppl taking it that would otherwise not have taken it. (i.e unqualified stockbrokers, CFP holders, secretarys, college students that want to do ibanking but have no idea what it is...)

I'm not referring to the cash, dont you have to be "sponsored" by a firm before you can take it? Like with your securities licenses? You cant take your 7 if you dont have a company sponsor.....
am I wrong?

on the other hand, my last semester in college, my finance professors encouraged us to take the level 1 part ASAP before we forgot all we learned..so maybe I dont need to wait for a company sponsorship....
