335D INPA E90 (or Fxx) DDE Sync? EWS Tampering Fault Code 0x2E3c 2E3C
I have a 2011 335D that came with no keys...a new dealer key didn't work, so I purchased a BMW Multi Tool 7.7 and made one. The car recognizes the key, accessories all work fine, it cranks but no start.
I have a fault code: Error 0x2E3c 2E3C EWS-Manipulationsschutz Fehlerhaufigkeit: 5 Logistikzahler: 40 or translated to English: Error 0x2E3c 2E3C EWS tamper protection Fault frequency: 5 Logistics Payer: 40 I've read that I need to synchronize my DDE<->CAS but then also see places where people say this car is EWS4 so there is no "rolling code" so now I'm confused. I have INPA and tracked down the correct DDE file from Fxx series Dates files as found in another thread to work for this car. I can use INPA with the car now and select E90->Engine->DDE73KWP and can see the menus fine but of course they're in German. I've attempted to translate them all without accidentally selecting anything that could wreck things...Here they are (as far as I could go in): //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Main Menu F1 Information F2 Identification F3 INPA-Change F4 Error Memory F5 Read Status F6 Head For F8 Selection F9 Print Screen F10 End Shift + F1 KVP Editor Shift + F6 Control Unit Reset Shift + F8 Total Shift + F10 Exit -- F2 Identification: BMW Part # 8572131 Coding Index: 2 Variant Index 22340 Diagnosis Index 48 Hardware # 00 Software Number 55.84.77 Software Operating System 3.3.1 Software News Catalog 8.2.48 Manufacturing Date 29.03.2010 Manufacturer Bosch -- F3 INPA-Change: F1 Jump to the last rework program (DDE73KWP) F2 Car Access System F3 Junction Box F4 Transmission Control Device F5 Electric Fuel Pump F9 Print Screen (Bildschirmdruck) F10 Back (Zuruck) Shift + F10 Exit -- F4 Error Memory: F1 Read Error Memory Error 0x46D7 Verdichter-Bypassklappe, AnsteuerungF2 Clear Error Memory F3 Read Information Memory F8 Download Info Memory F9 Download Error Memory F10 Back Shift + F8 Save Info Memory Shift + F9 Save Error Memory -- F5 Read Status - no clue what this one is -- F6 Head For (what is this???) F1 IMA Adjustment F2 Actuator Drive F3 Controlled Air Supply F4 MSA F5 System Check F6 EWS (-> Activate->F1->diag box->blank box for number to be entered??) Maybe do I need my DDE ISN or something, and how do I get this? F7 SCR F8 Adaptions Delete F9 Print Screen F10 Back -- F8 Selection (unsure what this does, a box comes up) //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Am I heading in the right direction here, and what do I need to do to fix the EWS Tampering Protection issue? Does anyone know which menu items I should be using? The translations are not the best so I'm lost but I've highlighted the options I think might be something worth looking at in magenta/pink... Any help is sincerely appreciated! Last edited by StaciL; 07-16-2017 at 05:30 PM.. |

In order to start the car, DDE(or DME) and CAS should have same "password", called ISN.
If they are different, DDE/DME will not open injectors, and you will have the error u have. To change ISN you need special tools and BMW Multi Tool will not be able to help you. I can do that, for more details PM me. I work on this stuff, programing DME/DDE, cloning DME/DDE, all key lost cases for CAS, key progrmming, etc. |

BMW Multi Tool is a good bit of kit.
Did you use the prepare dealer key function??? EWS tamper protection requires CAS /DDE Handshake reset using the CAS / DDE sync function in Rheingold for example. |

Yes, I used the prepare dealer key function...I have CAS 3++ ISTAP 4 so when I ran it with "all keys lost" it "updated" (i.e.: reflashed??) my CAS before I could "read key info". The first time it failed due to my laptop going to sleep (ahhh!!!) and I had to reflash via another tool which worked well. Then I ran it again, it again "updated" my CAS and that all went well the second time. I ran "read key info" and data popped into the screen, I selected an empty slot (is it odd that I could see three keys were in slots 1-3 already?? Didn't think I'd be able to see that) and made a dealer key. The key was made successfully, and then it told me to put it in and start the car, stating it may take 64 times to do so. The very first time I did this the car turned over and over but no start. I assumed this counted as a "start" and that I had another issue and so I moved on to the next step. It had me run a sync function right from the multi tool software "more than 10 times" and it failed each time, but the instructions said this was okay. Did I mess up by saying the car started when it just turned over and over? If I had selected "no" to the "did it start" question box and kept going up to 64 times would that have been better?? Also, why did the sync from the BMW Multi Tool software fail? I had assumed my CAS version caused me not to get a response but the sync had been sent as the instructions stated it was okay to get a "fail" response. Now as to Rheingold...I'm very confused with this. I DL'd it but when I extract, it has an "ISTA+ Installation Guide 4.04" so is this ISTA/D? When I open that PDF it says: Quote:

Again, its EWS4 and there is no sync.
All key lost function wiped your ISN. As I wrote in previous post, I can fix it, lmk if you will need it. |

I'm not saying this is the problem but some conditions the EWS4 and DME/DME can loose sync on the rolling code and can be re-synced with the function EWS/CAS-DME/DDE adjustment -->reset start value.
Or with Rheingold: You can also try to reset CAS in Rheingold by doing: Service functions -> Drive -> CAS -> CAS reset When resetting the CAS, the START/STOP button illumination is briefly deactivated." For this function to succeed the Anti Tamper code must be cleared first. Also, new key must be registered in DDE as well as CAS now? |

So any time someone uses "all keys lost" on a BMW Multi Tool...there's an EWS Tampering fault code and the CAS & DDE have to be removed from the car to fix? This seems odd, or what am I missing?

I have a BMW E60 520d from 2007, 177HP, engine N47D20A.
I changed the ECU and now I have the anti-tamperimg protection active, although the car starts and works fine. How can I remove that error? |

Yea, I changed the DME two years ago after I accidentally fried it by swapping two connectors on the engine compartment (long story, ehhhh). Afterwards, I purchased another identical DME (ECU) from eBay, took it to a pro who copied my data from the old ECU to the new one, which sorted the problem I had (crank but no start). Nevertheless, I have the EWS sync error ever since, although the car runs and drive great.
I want to remove that error just because it’s there, not because is causing issues to the car. As far I could understand, I need to copy the ISN from the EWS (CAS) to the DME (ECU) but no matter what I’ve tried, it was unsuccessful. (INPA, ISTA-D, ISTA-P, BMW ISN, EWSSync, etc. Any suggestion? |
