[SMOKE EM IF U GOT EM!!]

Anyone running 225/40 18 all around on sp rims, if so, any probs? Just wanna check before I switch rims, and get new tires. Thanks.

Aside from increasing the size, not too many owners will deviate from the original size.

The rear of the car will rotate more so during a turn than the 255/35-18 size.

Thanks for the reply. Aside from the additional rotation, is it sufficient enough of an increase to noticeably affect the speedo, or traction system?

The reason I ask, i am set on a particular tire, for light winter use, and they dont offer oem rear size.

Or different situation, just up a size to 225/45 255/40 18....is that feasable?

It shouldn't be an issue- I think several people are running this setup without any problems.

An interesting thought, however... when the width of the rim changes, say 8" -> 8.5" but the tire size stays consistent, say: 225/40... I would assume the total diameters (ride height) of the wheels and rims would have to be different, right? (Because the tire would be more stretched on the 8.5" rim.)

I wonder if this will cause an issue on an AWD system???

The specs on the 225 I'm lookin @ reveal that it will fit on up to a 9 in. rim. Whether or not it too stretched is personal opinion i guess. I will just have to wait and see.

But I dont know if a stretched out tire would effect the x drive. I dont think it would. Anyone else?

I wouldn't alter the height of the vehicle, but instead, find a different make or model.
Since the front and rear wheels are different in width, you have to consider the tire's outcome when installed.

for some 225/40/18 tires specs i looked
they recommend a rim width between 7.5-9.0
and the rears are 8.5 so there should be no problem at all

A 225 on a 8.5 isn't that much of a stretch, so the difference in height between the front and rear wheels using a 225 all around is negligible.

If this is for a winter tire I think there would be no problems, you aren't going to be driving aggressively in the winter anyways. Right?

Its not for a full blown winter setup, just an all season performance tire, and its most likely never really gonna be in snow. Just freshly cleaned roads.

Its just gonna be w no spare and no runflats. Gotta figure something out.

I got into reading some of the TireRack articles a whiles ago. The height difference for the 225/40 on the 8.0 and 8.5 is negligible. Something to do with the belts in the tires.

I definitely plan to do this with stock 18. All seasons, or maybe go all out with the winters since hypothetically it will be my second set.

"Because tires have flexible sidewalls, a single tire size will fit on a variety of rim widths. A tire's rim width range identifies the narrowest to the widest rim widths that the tire is designed to fit. The width of the rim will influence the width of the tire. A tire mounted on a narrow rim would be "narrower" than if the same size tire was mounted on a wide rim. NOTE: Because the overall diameter of a steel belted radial is determined by the steel belts, there is little, if any, change to the overall diameter of the tire due to differences in rim width."

Many have been going to 225/40R18 all around on the OE wheels for winter tires.

Hi guys ! I have a 2008 335i e93 with 225/40r/18 all around.

Obviously, the rear should be on 255 but I had a deal on some 225.

Although the car drive perfectly it look silly !

Can I put 25-30mm spacer on the rear ? Will it help ?
