225/40/18 all round ?

Hi all,

Is it safe / sensible to fit 225/40/18 all round on standard staggered mv3 wheels?

Looking at fitting winters and not only does it bring the price down a little the choice in tyres is also greater.

Many thanks,
Joel

225 would go on an 8.5 rim not sure if it is a good idea or not. I just run the standard size tyres for my winters I know people say don't get the wider wheels but I don't want the car to look rubbish.

They worked well on the way home tonight although it's not exactly perilous....

You can fit 225 section on the rear. I have a pair of Falken Eurowinters in 225/40/18 if you want to make me an offer on them. They have 6/7mm or so across the whole width.

Rears will look a tiny weeny bit stretched but you'll be fine. I'd have no problem with it. I actually run that size on an 8.5 front coupled with a 9.5 rear.

I am running that tire set up on stock Style 189 rims 8" and 8.5"

Been running that for the past 4years. Still on the same winter tires.

Just to update.

Tyres fitted with no problems at all. Tyres have a "rim protector" making the tyre look almost standard fitment.

Nice little saving on the tyres and the cars a little safer in the colder conditions

This 'square' set up is a common approach taken on 130i which have 7.5 or 8" front, and 8.5" rear. Worked well for me and made the car even more eager to change direction.

I have a 2009 328i xdrive coupe. I changed my wheels to 18x8 with 255/35r18 in the rear and 215/40r18 in the front. My steering wheel would wobble so I changed the front to 225/45r18 and the problem remains the same. Will changing the front wheels to 225/40r18 solve the problem? Thanks

Your wheels could wobble for a number of reasons. Worn bushes, wheels not balanced, buckled alloy, bad alignment.

as above.i doubt the change in wheel size would cause a wobble,,id say they never balanced them properly,,or a wheel weight fell off..

Hi guys ! I have a 2008 335i e93 with 225/40r/18 all around.

Obviously, the rear should be on 255 but I had a deal on some 225.

Although the car drive perfectly it look silly !

Can I put 25-30mm spacer on the rear ? Will it help ?

Thanks for you help.
