DSC and xDrive Malfunction

Hey looking for some input on what my issue may be. I have been getting this twice a week for the past month.

I had my car services before and everything was updated to the newest DME 98g1b because the dealership had to warranty out my CA keys.

I had to get my car recoded and reflashed after because the update erased everything I had. I never had this issue prior. However after my service I did also install a HPF exhaust. I wanted to ask is it possible that my exhaust or coding is causing the 4x4 and brake error to trigger? I believe I read somewhere that due the sizing of the HPF exhaust many members here optd out of using the OEM v bracket and were getting DSC light.

It isn't a hard fault but when it triggers it would go away after I restart the car but it most likely trigger again that day. Then I go about a week with no issues and the cycle repeats. For the majority of the times it triggered when I was on a smooth straight road.

I am FBO, running OEM 313 19s staggered with the same rolling diameter.

I appreciate any input!

If I'm not mistaken, turn your car on, turn your wheel all the way to the right, then all the way to the left and it will clear that.

So I've experience that one you've mentioned when I disconnected the battery a year ago and got a TON of errors. However this occurs mid drive. I will however try this again and see if it does anything.

SO to sum it up. I usually go a week with no issues and at the end of the week the light pops up mid drive. When I turn the car off and back on it'll go away but pop back up a second time. Then when I cycle the car again it'll stay off for about another week.

Weird right?

Thanks!

Hoping to get to my mechanic sometime this week and will provide a update on what the actual codes are.

Get the codes pulled for sure......but my guess is wheel speed sensor. Might just be dirty as well. If you do a search i believe there is a DIY for cleaning them.

Could also be worn transfer case actuator gear. I had same lights and a light grinding sound when 1st starting the car. If you diy, replacement metal gear can be purchased on eBay. I replaced mine. Perform a Google search and a you tube video should come up showing the removal and install of gear.

Check your battery connections.

If there is power loss, SAS needs to be reinitialized on xDrive models and that will throw DTC, ABS, Brake, and/or 4x4/AWD lights until the SAS is initialized.

When you say there are no "hard" faults, if you mean there are no shadow faults stored, a momentary power loss would explain your issue.

Did they ever fix the battery cable recall or whatever it was in these? maybe thats an old issue, but either way it could just be a loose connection to the battery like posted above. easy place to start.

Sigh, I accidentially cleared the codes when I changed my cobb maps.

However it isn't the wheel sensor, battery or actuator. We reset my adaptive features on the dsc and trans. Got to wait for it to throw a code again

If you cleared faults with a COBB Access Port, that should only be clearing DME faults.

DSC faults would not have been cleared and still stored in history. You need a BMW specific scan tool to pull fault history from modules other than the DME.

Not sure what happened then. We used rhiengold and all we were able to see was the last 50 faults but not the error codes cause those were cleared. I will check again this time immediated after it triggers.

I would like to point out that I am only at 30k total on the car. This doesn't happen when I start the care, this occurs mid drive then disappears for a week.

I did have my mechanic look at it and this is not my problem unfortunately.

Update. Code came up twice this weekend both on a smooth highway road at about 65mph. The second time I was cruising on cruise control on my way back from NYC to Boston, it triggered and kicked me off cruise.

The weird thing is I am not losing power delivery or going into LIMP mode when this happens. It is also on a straight road and not a turn.

The codes I am getting are 0055c3 and 005EC0. I am going to wait until it comes up two more times and go to the dealer to have them look at it since I am still under original warranty.

That latter is a steering angle sensor code. First one is transfer case. Low battery or charging system issues (and connections) will throw these codes sometimes. Def take it to dealer if under warranty and find out what is the problem.

Hey, were you able to resolve this issue? I recently purchased a car and it's doing the same thing...

It would generally come on during highway driving, pretty much on every time I drove it.

I noticed the steering wheel wasn't perfectly centered, and the car had a slight pull the the left. I took it in for an alignment today, and for a second I thought it have solved my issue. However, after about 20 or so miles of driving on the highway, it came back on.

The mechanic noticed the LF and RR tires were brand new (11/32), and the RF and LR were not (7/32). So I guess the rotating diameter could be off. I ordered two new tires, so hopefully they'll match soon.

I haven't pulled the codes yet, I'll try and do that tomorrow.

Yes. We reset all the sensors and the problem when away.

Hi,

What do you mean by “ALL sensors” ?
I mean what specific sensors values must be erased?
Sorry if my question doesn’t make sense, I am a newbe ;-)

I have the exact same issue, and I am asking this because I would like to know I must precisely ask for when I go to the garage.

Do you think it is something that can be done with Carly by the way?

Thank you for your help!!
