Spring is Coming - What's Your Winter Decontamination Tips?

Bought my white X5 last May, this was its first winter with snow (I bought it in lower BC and drove it home to Alberta). I need some of the PPF redone (install was poor last May). I also got a single stage polish and ceramic coat which seems to be holding up. But what do you guys do to get your vehicle out of winter and ready for spring/summer? Especially if you have a white vehicle lol

Here's what i would do

if you have a foam cannon (pressure washer) or foam gun (hooks to garden hose)

Search up Pan the organizer on YouTube. he has some good content and good product recs test etc. you can also talk to local detailers.

I think the decontamination depends on the type of salt/sand they put on the roads in the winter/traffic film

Pan took a really big hit to his credibility awhile back. I can't remember exactly what for, but it was something like being a shill for whoever would sponsor him.

Well, you can say that in a sense, but most seem to identify that it is a paid sponsorship. Apparently Pan wasn't doing that.

I don't do anything special to decontaminate. I'm not into/believe the whole salt/film decontamination is needed type of thing. Just use your normal products and clean the car.... like don't get me wrong, clay barring and IronX type products work for their uses, but buying a special salt neutralising soap product is just BS to me. And I live in Canada and daily my car all year.

Yeah I stopped watching him to. It's like his videos are always advertisements, he is never overly critical of companies or products and always shill for them. And with that drama you say, his community just protected him and he had no accountability and I really didn't like that. He seems to never be able to take criticism in mature way either. Had to unsub.

Nah Forensic Detailing Channel is a perfect example of a good detailing channel IMO.

Here's my deconn process after simplifying things and learning of clay mitts

Assuming you're covered or in the shade...

Wash the car like normal (use your cheaper soaps, nothing special for this wash)

Spray whole car (painted surfaces) with iron/fallout remover (I use Griot's)

Use a clay mitt for physical decon, with the chemical decon spray acting as the lube. You might also spritz some lube as you go. With the mitt, you can do the whole car very quickly as opposed to a little block of clay. I dump my mitt into a bucket of water as I go around to clean it off.

Rinse it down and dry it off. Depending on climate, you might need to hose off portions as you work them.

I only do this if I'm going to be polishing the car. If not polishing, I don't use clay as it will marr the surface. I just do the chemical decon.
