General maintenance questions at 7000 miles

Hi everyone,

I bought a new 330xi about 5 months ago. It's now at 7000 miles.
According to my service indicator, i'll have to wait another 12000 miles for the first oil change. Isn't that too long? I thought it should be around 15k.
What should I do at this point for maintenance?
Should I get an oil change soon?
Should I also do tire rotation and alignment? I'm thinking to go to TownFair since they do it for free (only for rotation).

Thanks a lot in advance.

If you want to treat the car well than changing the oil now would be smart. There are particles in the oil from break-in and the filter could use a change also. The reason BMW offers such long intervals is because they obviously want to keep their "free maitnence" which you pay for anyway to the bare minimum. If you plan on keeping the car past warranty or generally like taking care of your equipment, go for it! You can use BMW 5w30, Mobil 1 0w40, Lubro Moly 5w30 or Castrol 0w30.

I believe the owner manual should state when to rotate the tires...but it couldn't hurt to do so. If your car is tracking well and tires are wearing well then alignment isn't probably necessary unless you drive really beat up roads, if so make sure your wheels are re-balanced when rotated also.
