Talking Future X5M, X6M, M5, M6, even an M8 all twin turbo charged V8s!

Wow: This is some news. BMW about to go all FI on a hwole slew of vehicles. Source Autocar. Link here

Question is, if you have just the regular model twin turbo charged V8 can't you just procede, JBX or Dinan (take your pick) it to M levels?

I want an M, but don't want to spend M money and I know M fan boys wont like it but leaves me wondering.

M cars are more than just a lot of power.

isn't this old news? and the M has never been about the power....maybe the high revving NA source but M has always been more about handling and the overall package than "hey let's slap a chip on our turbo engine and call it an M"

It all makes sense (especially in today's and the future's economy with high priced oil/gas), and I guessed BMW envisioned the future of high performance sports cars, beginning with the 335i's N54 tt F/I engine.

M stands for Motorsport, not Mopar. M cars have a lot to offer than just speed and sexy looks

If you don't want to pay the premium for an M car, then don't, but M3/M5's don't really depreciate at all.

M series is always is about racing. BMW M is suppose to be their version of Formula 1 street car. In the past, M engine designed by their racing motorsport Department. Some of the old engine like s54 was designed base on their formula 1 car. BMW also have their partner company Alpina. Alpina suppose to take over Dinan company. Dinan and BMW divored due to warrant issue for very long time.

For example. E46 M 3 use Castrol Racing engine oil 10w-50 Full Systenix.. M3 will not run smoothly with `5w-30 like n54 engine.

Mopar is quite a bit more then stickers and speed. Everyone with a marque brand addresses most or all aspects of the model performance, but to differing degrees and goals which are what sets the M series apart from the other manufacture's premium brands.

What the M series needs is a substantial speed difference too. Nothing sucks more than getting waxed by a more pedestrian version of your uber-wagon. While speed is only an element of the overall package it accounts for 99.9% of the time buyers will find themselves in a position of justifying that mark-up to driver next lane.

When it comes down to it if you don't have the muscle to back up those badges it doesn't really matter that you have 23-piston quad-caliper brakes and the entire body is milled and cut from a single block of forged aluminum. It's a BMW not a Rolls.

10W60, actually. Even more expensive...

Anyway, to the OP: by the time you take your stock non-M car and boost it, change suspension, brakes, wheels/tires, cooling, add a limited slip, and hopefully avoid the dealer's modification police, you will be right around the price of an equivalent M car.
