Here's something I found that shows recent quakes here in California/Nevada:

Yeah, it was like someone took a wrecking ball to the city. The problem was, it wasn’t a shaker, it was a roller. I was sitting on the couch, watching the World Series and you could see the street, outside was rolling up and down about 5 feet in the air. It was like jumping on a waterbed.

On your link, the 4.8 in my area, is the blue square. 🟦 getting one, I land, this far, is like getting one in New York.

It had to go there: NBC 4 NY
Can climate change impact earthquakes? Here's what experts say

NBC New York's Linda Gaudino chats with the geology experts. What sounded the alarms for a possible explosion turned into a minor earthquake, a seemingly foreign experience to New Yorkers

This reminds me of seeing a regular on one of the daytime TV talk shows a decade or more ago raising the subject of whether the most recent earthquake was due to global warming. Her background is as a comedienne, so at first I thought maybe she was trying to make light fun of it. But no, she was serious. I just shook my head in disbelief. The woman was clearly not a stupid person, and yet there she was, sounding like a Loch Ness Monster believer.

Our nation's education system simply isn't what it used to be.

Afterwards, the power was out except for the phone lines (landlines, that is). Only problem was, landline systems can be overwhelmed when everybody and his brother wants to make a call at the same time. It was hours before I could reach my mother a couple of miles away. Meanwhile, the Marina District was on fire and I could see it from our home. That was not a good-feeling time.

It wasn't until the next morning that I was able to get a full report on the City's and the region's status from the firm for which I was working. That company was very well connected, and I felt fortunate to receive excellent advice on what the next 48 hours were going to be like.

I've been through a 6.9 earthquake when I was 13 or 14, and I didn`t know what was happening until it was over. A lot of people died that day.

Glad you are okay.

Same in Westport. First I thought a train or something had derailed, but then it just kept shaking and shaking.

Just my luck. I missed yet another opportunity to experience an earthquake, because I was driving through Savannah, GA at the time this one happened.

In a twist of irony, I was actually injured by the earthquake a day later. It apparently rattled a cold water bottle that I keep in our refrigerator, and it fell out onto my bare foot when I opened the refrigerator door this afternoon upon returning home. It also dumped a soft-sided tool bag and its contents onto the floor from the edge of my workbench when the quake apparently shook it off the bench.....
