HELP! BMW 318d e90 2011 tyre/wheel combination

I have BMW 318D E90 2011 m sport

Front tyres are: 225/45/17
Rear tyres are : 255/40/17

I want to put new wheels on the rear
New rear tyres are : 255/40/18

It's practially the same as my front, but I'm worried they aren't wide enough for my vehicle.

What do you all say?

new tyre is too big. should be 255/35/18
matching front tyre is 225/40/18.

note that the middle number is a % of the first number! not an absolute height of the sidewall.
