Crank no start - need help debugging T15 wake signal
My 2008 e92 330i (vin PY15088) only starts when I run power to the F36-F38. I followed George's other posts but can't get the activation of the dme relay to get my car to start ONLY when they are powered directly from the accessory power.
It's running currently with a dme key set from a 2006 325i n53 325i (JV79376) Does anyone have any tips for how to debug if the T15 wake up signal is sent to start the chain of the events that leads to a successful start up? I have INPA ISTA and BMW Protools Is there a way to test or activate these signals from inpa or any tool? Or is there anything I can do electrically? Pretty sure the grounds and B+ are ok as I changed the fuse box to replace the water damged ecu and fusebox I can only manage to get my car to start the accessories and the engine when the dme relay is bypassed. Which I have opened a thread on too but it's possibly got too much else going on in that thread. |

gbalthrop hope you don't mind me asking, can't find where to start with the wake up signal debugging.
There was a hands-free kit wired into the CAS using the ignition as the powerline I've removed that and reconnected the wire but guess perhaps that wiring harness could be something that's preventing me from following the grounding of dme signal to start the car up? |

What did you change exactly?: JBE (installed in bottom of JB Fuse Panel? JB fuse Panel? From Vehicles with what VIN? What Part#? 4) What Fuse Chart or numbering system are you looking at? While both the 6/2007 325i & 2/2008 330i have same JB Fuse Panel LAYOUT, the fuses are numbered Differently between 2007B model & 2008 model. For example, F37 on the 2008 JB Panel is SAME position as F78 on 6/2007 JB Panel, 'cuz the panel layout was changed 3/1/2007 in middle of 2007 model run, and they KEPT the SAME numbering by function as the OLD JB Panel Layout used PRIOR to 3/1/2007. Changed numbering on 2007B (2nd-half 2007) Panel for 2008 & later Models. Confused Yet? ![]() 5) IF ANY Module (CAS, JBE, JB Fuse Panel, DME) is NOT original to 2/2008 build PY15088, please identify the Part# or VIN of donor vehicle. 6) What Fault Codes are read in DME, CAS & JBE? Use INPA or ISTA if possible & attach ScreenPrint. 7) Do you have a Multimeter? It appears that the cause of your "Crank, NO Start" issue is that the K6300 DME Main Relay is NOT being activated. That should cause Fault Code 2ACB & others. I'm NOT aware of any reason the KL15 Wakeup is relevant to "Crank, NO Start". The DME is ALWAYS powered via fuse F4 (10A), per the 2008 numbering system (4th from Left on Top Row of small fuses). That is SAME POSITION/ Function as F50 on 2007B numbering System. If that fuse is pulled, or is NOT powering the DME, DME will be RED on ISTA Control Unit Tree (NOT communicating), or will NOT appear on INPA > Functional Jobs > F2 Identification screen. There MAY be other reasons that DME does NOT Activate K6300 Main Relay, such as a fault in Ground wire from X60005/13 to X11010/1 at the top-left of JB Fuse Panel, an issue at X60005/13 Pin/Socket, or a DME Fault. It is RARE that the K6300 Relay itself fails. Please provide answers to questions above, & I'll provide ISTA ScreenPrints and suggested "NEXT Steps". George |

Thanks for diving into the details of my issue. Let me clarify a few things and provide some additional information: DME Replacement: Yes, I do have the DME from VIN JV79376 installed in my 2008 e92 330i (VIN PY15088). CAS Module: The CAS module is also from the JV79376 e93 Fuse Box Replacement: My bad for not being clear. I replaced both the JBE (installed in the bottom of the JB Fuse Panel) and the JB Fuse Panel itself. They were sourced from vehicles with compatible VINs, I used the bmw protool to code the correct vin to the jbe. Fuse Chart: I've been referencing the fuse chart specific to the 2008 model. I understand the confusion regarding the numbering system between 2007B and 2008 models. I'll make sure I'm following the correct numbering scheme! Non-Original Components: As mentioned earlier, the DME and the replaced JBE and JB Fuse Panel are not original to my vehicle. gbalthrop do you think my issue with DSC is related to the incorrect dme, or just a bad unit?
I've got the original dme but I can't read it with ktag / kess. I can read the replacement dme no problem but can't get the original one to I'd at all. Also tried putting it into read mode via the soldered resistors still nothing. BDM / tricore is my next step to try but I fear that dme is completely dead. If anyone has a recommendation on what to try there I'd be interested in trying or sending it somewhere. ( I had given it to a local place but they messed me around and left it on a shelf for 2 months doing nothing, it was a pro place too which was really frustrating) |
