HAS kit or Springs?

Debating between springs or HAS kit. I know HAS kits are popular nowadays but I want to know from guys who installed HAS Kit, do you guys keep the same setting all the time or change it ? Is changing height easy or time consuming?

Please also mention HAS kits or springs as well

I'm on KW H.A.S. and havent touched it since install. I lowered it by an inch all the way around and dont really plan on making changes to it as I'm planning on adding a lip and maybe some side skirts and rear valance. So I dont want to go too low. However for esthetics, the lower the better so thats always an option. I also recommend realigning if lowering the car quite a bit, so throw in that cost as well.

I am on port installed MP HAS. Once I get it to the height I want, its the Ronco way (set it and forget it).

Yes, you could adjust it but other than a tweak to get it exactly where you want it, not sure why you would be continually adjusting it. I had a B9 S5 with H&R HAS...in the six plus years I owned the car with the HAS on it after setting height, never adjusted it once.

One benefit of the HAS vs Spring is the corner balancing if you are into that type of thing.

We developed our own lowering spring to be at a height we really like, but also if you're wanting to dial things in perfectly to your taste or corner weight the car a HAS kit is ideal.

We have good experience with both the AST ALS and MSS Hybrid HAS, with the MSS Hybrid forming part of our 'CSL' package as it is a genuine performance upgrade along with lowering the car.

What makes the MSS hybrid a better nonperforming HAS?
Spring rate?

2 separate springs on the front and rear with multiple spring rates (2 front 3 rear) mean it has incredible compliancy which is important for both comfort and grip by keeping the wheel in contact with the road, whilst having a higher spring rate for cornering once the softer spring is fully compressed.

We did a full video on the kit:

It’s the next advancement in technology on from a traditional HAS kit.

Is the MSS kit more fiddly to set up, or is it still a single adjustable perch?

No different to any of the other HAS kits from an adjustment perspective, a single perch front and rear.

MSS is effectively a progressive spring with increasing stiffness with increasing deflection. They don’t release the spring rates nor show a graph of load vs displacement. Other HAS kits are a mixed linear-progressive or linear-linear spring setups. The main advantage of a HAS is its ability to corner balance the car which makes it have the same response when turning left or right. You’ll end up with differing heights at all four corners. Once this is done then you don’t adjust the ride heights again. I’d go HAS over lowering springs.

I am Currently on H&R VTF adjustable springs and could say I am very impressed on the ride. Coming from K&W Coilovers from the M340i to H&R VTF springs I was expecting a major difference in ride quality. Of course, it is a little bit more bouncy on Springs but that is to be expected.

Does the BMW M Performance Suspension Kit use a progressive front and rear spring?

If there is a spring option that has the drop you like I would go the spring route. If you like to play around with ride heights I would go with a HAS kit. I personally will be going with the Eibachs. I want a minimal drop. To spend all that money for a HAS kit to lower it just 10mm doesn't seem worth it.

Considering how much HAS kits have dropped in price, it's really too much more than a set of fixed rate springs.

HAS allows the the drop to be finely tuned to your liking and allows you to perform adjustments if your needs or configuration changes in the future (larger wheels, aggressive front lip, etc), unlike springs would.

Which ones? I paid less than $500 CAD for my Eibach Pro-Kit, and the KW HAS Kit is over $1500.

Essentially all of them have come down in price within the last few years. Whenever ST Suspensions (KW's sister company) releases theirs, it'll be even cheaper.
