Why is fuel leaking from my charcoal cannister vent pipe??
Really quite baffled by this.
On filling the car up over half way, fuel appears to leak out the top of charcoal cannisters vent pipe which sits in the rear wheel arch. Its fine normally, but the second you go over half it starts trickling out. I had to have the purge valve in the engine changed recently due to the hose splitting. Has the failure of this part caused a build up of vapor in the cannister and caused it to fail. Surely they don't hold any fuel, only vapor. |

Is your car earlier model like 2006 and 2007?
From what I've gathered they had design flaw with vent pipe rubbing on chassis and braking over time causing this leak when filling up tank. For me it's when I fill it full, so I've been filling up 3/4 ever since I've discovered this. It's a huge job to replace it which involves dropping pretty much everything, exhaust, subframe etc. Massive job and not worth it. There was never a recall for this unfortunately. |

Unfortunately ( or fortunately ) its not the vent pipe that comes through the chassis. We did think this was the case to begin with. But on inspection it is not. Its about £400 in labour and then £80 for the revised part. I have the pictures to prove its coming from the canister breather pipe. Shame I cant post on here.
I'm half tempted to buy a second hand cannister and fit it. Assuming this cannister has internal valves of sorts based on tank pressure. Maybe its failed internally causing this issue. Will speak to my specialist on his return from holiday |
