Everything is a pay for it option with BMW's .
Is the option installed is the first thing to find out. Use Mdecoder.com to list the installed options. You have to have a TCU module or a mulf module for bluetooth to work if it is anything like the US. The phone symbol should be displayed if you have bluetooth phone in one of the Pro Radio menu's and in the Idrive if you have that there are a lot of ytubes on how to pair if you have it . Also no bluetooth music without Idrive of a certain level and a Combox . This was not present till around the 2010 year. Usually it's big trouble to install aftermarket head units on these. It generates and SOS error when the Most bus is broken . If you go through the AUX it degrades the audio. The most you will get from an '06 car is telephone Bluetooth. No music streaming, if that's what you are looking for. An older vehicle may struggle when paring with modern phones, as the standard has changed dramatically in the last 17 years.
There are 2 schools of thought: 1) Upgrade to newer tech from a later model BMW. This is more difficult, but can be a bit cheaper, depending on how much you value audio quality. Looks factory and may be a selling point down the road. 2) Plug in one of the newer android in dash units. These give much of the modern bells and whistles, but most connect via AUX plug to the audio path which is not ideal from a quality standpoint. Expensive but easy if you want a decent unit. A lot will depend if you have NAV already or not, as most of the android replacements are just the NAV screen only. Without NAV you will install where the current unit is but may need to juggle the climate control module around. |
