Ventureshield vs 3M (autobahn, clear bra)

My car just arrived at dealership, picking up Sat or Mon.

So I was all set on doing the Ventureshield with an installer (without a garage, they some to you -huge PITA because I live in the city), when my autobroker told me that the dealership does the 3M Autobahn. I would save about $100 for same coverage. Plus, it would get done by the dealership in one fell swoop.

Is one better than the other, or are they pretty much the same, effectively? I know that the Ventureshield is a little thicker, but does it make any real difference?

ANY help is grealty appreciated. I searched, but 3m does not come up, and the topics are sparse.

I have the ventureshield applied to my car.... but I can't offer a comparison as to which is better since I haven't tried the 3m. From what I could tell, the venture bra seems to be holding up pretty well. I haven't noticed any discoloration, and it seems to be pretty transparent (can't notice it on other than the line where it ends). I've only had it on for a year, so maybe others could chime in as well....

here's another question that i'm gonna throw out there. for those with the clear bra, how do you go about waxing? wouldn't the majority of the car look shiny and waxed and then the parts under the bra just look clean since you cant wax the bra itself? or can you??

No you don't wax the bra itself, and it is not recommended to either. I use a detailing spray (Zaino Z6) to clean off the bra area. As of yet, i haven't noticed a difference in shine from the area where I just waxed and the bra.... and I tend to pay pretty close attention to detail when I wax as well.

i didn't think there'd be much of a difference since the paint is so new. is it necessary to use that spray on the bra often? i heard there was a minimal amount of maintenance involved with them. they sound like a great investment though, my dad has an 07 Mazda3 and the bumper already has several small chips in it

So I believe that the Ventureshield is actually thicker, but when I spoke with the dealer rep, I was told that the 3M maintains the original factory 'orange peel.'

Now, this is probably becuase the 3M is a little thinner, but it is a huge debate whether you want to maintain the original paint 'imperfection' or just pave over it all with a thick coat of plastic.

I have Ventureshield on my car, and I wax it like I do the rest of the car.
My installer told me to just treat the car like the clear-bra's not even there. Wax and wash it like I would normally.

IMHO, except for the line across the hood, you can't see the film... and from over 5ft away you can't even see that.

I know it's not the greatest pic... but gives you some idea.

^^^Thanks for the pic! I wouldn't even mind the line on the hood just knowing the great protection you're getting from it! It's much easier to look at than rock chips! When I trade up eventually I will definitely do the clear bra!

Spazdoc...is that something that would even be noticeable from a few feet away? And on lighter colored cars, would you even notice it at all? I read on here somewhere, someone said that the 3M bra will get scratches in it easier, although that was one guy's opinion. Have you heard anything like that?

I would assume that the 3m might get more chips, since it is a little thinner. Heck, if you got to the Ventureshield website, you will see someone thaqt ran into their garage door and they pulled off the Ventureshield and there was only a little bump - no paint damage.

Really, it looks like it is all a continuum - #M is a little thinner, provides good protection, and does not look as artificial. Ventureshield is better protection, it seems, but also looks more like someone poured some epoxy resin on the car.

And then you can always get Rhino lining and spray the entire car: http://www.rhinolinings.com/products.php?id=33

^^^lol isn't that stuff for trucks? I think when the time comes I will probably go VentureShield and then get the Laminx stuff for the head lights and fogs. You think they would just make a clear bra to cover the whole car for maximum protection haha, of course you couldn't call it a bra anymore, more like "clear clothes" instead of just a bra!

No seems visible?

Vincent-
Looking over your photos, I don't see the seem in the film. I looked on the website for VentureShield, and they don't seem to sell a "whole hood" film kit for the 335i.
Does your VentureShield have a seem in it, and if it does, how do you feel about it?

Hi, I am paint film protection installer authorized by 3M ventureshield and 3M scotchguard now as a installer i've worked with alot of difference films ventureshield is thinner for design purposes 3M is well known in the industry the film is made of poly urthane with different mil thickness for different applications between 6-8 mil is the normal thickness. and there's actually a company in california that wraps entire vehicles the care of the product wax it like it's part of the vehicle just be aware of the edges if wax gets in between it will highlight the lines. 3M the preferred choice
