Boot won't open
I’m making this for anyone who has the same problem as me in the future.
One day everything is fine, the next your boot won’t open, your rear fog lights, reverse lights and plate lights don’t work. Your car also thinks the boot is open so every time you move it kindly lets you know. The rest of your car works fine. If this sounds familiar the brown cables in the wiring harness attached to the boot lid have probably snapped. But to get to it you need the boot open. If your battery is dead with the battery still attached, hook up another car under the bonnet using jump cables, should work. Step one: Slowly realising your car is shit You have already checked for the valet switch in the glove box (for Americans) you also don’t have a key hole in the boot which is located above the plate to the right (if you do pull your key out the key fob and use abit of force to open the boot) you also don’t have an emergency boot release catch on the inside which can be checked through the back centre seat (if the centre has a hard back behind it wait until step two to check, if you have folding seats then fold down) You have also checked for the emergency release behind the boot release actuator/button above the plate. Someone has a YouTube video explaining Step two: Destruction After realising your car is a piece of shit and doesnt have any of the above, like mine, you will need to remove the back seats, if they fold down then your laughing. If not you need to open the centre seat. Now if it has a hard back pull it out and there will be another plastic backing unfortunately your going to need to make a hole in this and through the fabric on the back of the plastic Next pull up the base cushion which with force from the front will pop up from two fixings. Then undo two torx bolts at the very centre bottom of the seats they are next to each other. See photo circled yellow. Then follow this YouTube video utilising the hole you have just made Once they are released pull the seat up and forward it’s abit tricky two people is probably better as the seat is hooked in on both sides. See photo circled red. Step three: Tight spaces After potentially ruining your car get into the boot with a flathead screwdriver. Pop out the grey rivets holding on the boot inner panel/liner see photo circled green. You will also need to remove anything that’s on the boot lid inner liner like warning triangle holder. Then remove the liner as best you can to expose the boot release mechanism. Step four: fingering Watch this video on how the boot mechanism is opened and reference where the release is catch is Now as your looking at the mechanism from inside the boot it will be on the left side. You can use a hook or you can actually use your pinky to move it if you have good pinky strength, or use a small hook which is easier. Then boom boot is open. After Follow this video for a tutorial on how to fix the wires in the harness |
