Ive got a very annoying problem with my BMW which is driving me crazy and I have no idea what to do haha!
Car is a BMW e92 325i 2006
Started out when I came to replace the coilovers. Had one set and on had no issues but decided to upgrade them. Changed them all over and lowered the car down and started her up to move it and bang loads of warnings come up on the dash. I scanned it with my bluetooth adapter and it said the ABS sensor had a fault. So I ordered a new one, that came and swapped it out but it didn’t clear all of the the faults. It cleared the speed sensor fault however left a ‘Left Wheel Rotation Detection’ fault. So I then ordered a genuine second hand one with the same part number (just in case it was the third party one) but this still didn’t clear the rotation code.

I have now since replaced the wheel bearing on that side as i thought that it may be that thats gone faulty but the code is still there and will not go. Its been driving me crazy and I’m now left with nothing to do. Ive spoken to various mechanics and have done everything they have suggested but to no avail.

The code that comes up with is: 005D96

Any help on the situation would be great as its driving me mad and i want my cruise control back!

Have you had a four wheel alignment (geo) done since having the suspension work carried out?
If the suspension settings are a long way out that can cause a lot of warning lights.
I get mine geo'd by STS but any tyre place with a hunter alignment machine would be able to do the job.

almost the same exact thing is happening to me, installed coilovers on my car, drove for a day then abs brake and the exclamation triangle symbol popped up. shortly after the service engine light soon came on. here are a couple possible solutions i've found after searching the forums for numerous hours.
.clean/replace faulty sensor
.get an alignment
.reset steering angle sensor
.replace hub bearing/reluctor ring
.deep clean hub,sensor hole, and all surrounding areas
.check your battery for correct voltage
.air up tire pressure to specs and reset tpms
.check to see if the wires that the sensor plugs into are in tact
that's basically all i've done, if anyone has any other suggestions i would appreciate it as well! been running with a lit up dash for almost 2 months now. honestly have given up on finding a solution at this point.

also car is 2010 328i and fault codes are 5db6 (wheel direction detection) and 581c (transmission management/dsc)

Is it the front or rear wheel?

I've heard cheap sensors have issues and can give wheel direction faults. You say you then replaced it with a genuine second hand one, but how do you know the used part is working perfectly?

FINALLY! I solved the issue this morning. After months of not having time to look more into it I finally set about today to actually solve it. I took the plunge and bought a genuine bmw sensor brand new from the stealers...£95 later and I have a working car with no faults. The second hand genuine one obviously didn’t work so that will be going back. But at the end of the day it pays to buy genuine the first time!!

for anyone who cares or for 'chinesedave', you posting my solution saved me ton of my time. i had same situation as you, replaced sensor but DME still complained about it with that same code. returned the chinese junk sensors and bought good quality sensors from FCP euro. error is gone!

I get gen bmw sensors off eBay for like £20-25, just search the part number and there’s normally a seller selling new bagged BMW sensors

If it’s the same as mine,
Jack up
Wheel off
Allen bolt out of sensor, pull out sensor, may be stuck
Clean the area well if rusty,
Fit new sensor and nip up Allen bolt.

Run the wire in the same location of old one and plug it in.

Pretty self explanatory once you pull the wheel off. It's one bolt and a little connector, and a little clip or two that might break.

Get ONLY ATE or genuine BMW sensors--others will throw codes right out of the box.
