How Do I know if I can Tune my '08 335

I just took delivery of a new 335 last week - build date of 5/08. While waiting out the breakin period I've been reading a lot about tuning options. I've seen all the posts related to this dreaded 29.2 firmware version and the new msd81 ecu. Since my vehicle has a build date of 5/08 can I just assume I have the 29.2 that came out in April? The new ecu is supposedly in vehicles built after 3/08 - so I assume I have that as well? Can I tell without taking it to the dealer and asking them (for no good reason other than that) Do I need to find out before I choose a tuning box like procede or jb? A lot of posts say if you have 29.2 you need to run a specific map, so I guess I'll have to find out even though it's not due for any maintenance. Is it possible to plug in a procede or jb and just not worry about the ecu version, or will I be making an uninformed choice in terms of performance maps?

You will need to run the maps designed for the MSD81 box which you should have.

+1

And you will be "limited" in how much you can do, if you care about throwing codes that the dealer can see. If you don't care--you can do whatever you want.

I have a 4/08 build 135--and I am looking to get the JB3 when it comes out and one of the dual cone intakes. No DP's on the v81/29.2 (yet) but hope that is an option in the future. Should put me in the ~350 whp range, with no lag. Can't wait.

So the new ecu doesn't hamper performance capability, it just lets the dealer see you've installed an aftermarket product? If that's the case I guess I need to go ahead and choose between jb or procede and be done with it.

might want to read this about performance complaints, its does add lag and tunner protection like you mentioned
ihttp://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=147781

id save procede v3 or jb3 are your best piggy options. SSTT and JB1 work also
from what i read is to stay away from DP's if you get a tune with 29,2 =(

You can run whatever tune you want, but if you don't want detection, you would have to run a detuned version...if you don't care then just run anything your heart desires!
