Good job
So, this navigation will start much more quickly.
Can this kind of aftermarket navigation, be modified too? www.ewaying.com |

hello guys and specialy Ao1 kioneo Jagaer
can you please tell me if its realy start faster than the orignal bmw hard drive ? because for me i see no any improvment. when i resetboot my cic the normal HD the SSD make exactly 13seconds to have the navigation boot. about the zoom in zoom out on map is the same or almost the same (hard to mesure time like that). please guys are you sure it make an faster boot or an faster zoom in zoom out ? because it look not at all for me... but realy nothing my car E64 LCI 635D of 07/2009, orginal CIC no retrofit, with last map west europe 2019-2 usb. my car is fully updated with the CIC too with the last ISTA-P .4.17.x and ICOM Next orginal from BMW. i use as you paragon disk manager 15, i did that on an Transcend TS128GPSD330 of 128gb --> https://www.amazon.co.uk/128GB-Trans...gateway&sr=8-1 and because i saw no any improvment i try with that too: Delock converter IDE 44 Pin> mSATA 2.5Z 7 mm build height (i dont know if it is with an marvel controler but sometime it lost the the navigation like no hard drive...) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Delock-6249...ateway&sr=8-11 and Samsung MZ-M6E250BW 250 GB 860 EVO mSATA III 64L V NAND Solid State Drive https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-SSD...ateway&sr=8-12 |

The SSD upgrade does NOT affect startup speeds as the CIC boots from flash memory already.
That is why you can remove the HDD and still get limited operation of the CIC. The SSD upgrade does improve map zooming and moves since that requires data reads from the drive. |

The speed that the system gets a fix affects how fast you end up at the map screen so you may not see an apparent change there.
Once a map comes up try moving around or zooming in and out. Usually this is where there is a dramatic difference. But be aware that the difference is conspicuous by its absence. You would really notice it more if you put the HDD back in... much like putting an SSD in a computer... you may notice it is faster but you don't realize how different it is until you go back. |

I've just completed this and after inserting the SSD into my e70 CIC, it is greying out the NAVIGATION function and telling me "THIS FUNCTION COULD NOT BE ACTIVATED" - this appears to be some sort of permissions issue on the cloned SSD, ie it seems like it can't write to it? Has anyone experienced something similar? I don't really care about the navigation that much (I use Apple's CarPlay), but other aspects might be affected as well?

How did you recreate those partitions? I have one corrupted (hbdebug) and maybe that is why all my music cannot be loaded (its just spinning) |

Just performed the swap successfully on my '12 135i using these parts:
Drive: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GMD5R7M mSATA to IDE Adapter: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017VQT5YW IDE to USB Cable: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E7EPKUO Used HDD Raw Copy, super easy. I used the portable version. Just select the HDD as source and pick a folder as target. Then swap out for SSD, select that file for source and SSD for target. 5 min for removal, 60 min to clone drives, 5 min for reinstall. Before: 90% of the time CIC just wouldn't boot, black screen. Sometimes it would boot up during a drive, mostly cycling through the BMW splash and orange screen. Once in a blue moon it would boot and work normally. Now it boots instantly and everything including maps is working as it should. Had no music saved so can't speak to that. |
