pig squealing under my hood
I've been getting a squealing noise under my hood for a few months now. happens when i first start the car up. not always but getting more common. Ive attached a video of the sound. the other day the car had trouble cranking. i tried it again and it was able to crank and start. wondering if the two are related. any ideas?

Most of the time, this turned out to be due to faulty PCV things. If this is it, then oof
Did you recently work on your car? This happened to me (pig noise) before and I found out I didn't fully insert the air filter box to below location. View post on imgur.com |

Chexk your belts and TENSIONER. Possibly its abour to break. If this happens you will be stranded.

So the noise only happens intermittently when I start up the car. It goes away once I drive off and let it quiet itself down. I checked the belts but the noise is coming from behind them more towards the spot where i positioned the camera in the engine bay. Checked the airbox connections and all good.

Sounds like your valve cover is cracked. Or the internal PCV diaphragm is torn(As watchout stated)
A good way to isolate that is when it begins sounding like a pig dying, simply unscrew your oil cap and lift it off. If you have a bad valve cover it should take some force to get it off and the noise should disappear. If the noise is still there then I suggest taking off your accessory belts to see if the noise goes away. If it does then it could be from a worn idler/tensioner pully. I have yet to come across an alternator scream like that. A/C pump, yes, as it decided to eat itself from the inside. However that was shriek was constant. If that is not it, then buy a stethoscope probe from your local auto store and see if it is coming from the vacuum pump or your HPFP. Let us know what you find! HTH's |
