Steering column locked !!

Hi guys - I’ve got a 2007 E92 335i coupe. I recently had the battery replaced. After that, the steering column has now locked and I think (hoping 🙏🏻!) that it just needs a coding reset. I don’t think Im game enough to attempt this myself! I am hoping for any recommendations from anyone on where I could take it to have it reset or ideally someone who is mobile and could come to me (I’m in Melbourne). Any thoughts would be appreciated, cheers Cliff

Is the steering wheel lock light on the dash (red steering wheel with a padlock), have you checked out what codes are coming up. Its quite difficult to point you in the right direction without more information. Could be a number of things. the car could be in safety mode, a problem with communication with the CAS, something to do with the starter lock counter etc.
Tbh I have replaced my battery half a dozen times and disconnected it hundreds of times and have never had a problem with steering locks, so unless it started immediately after the battery replacement, then it may just be an unlucky coincidence
The best thing to do is get it towed to a indy shop who specialise in E9x cars and get it diagnosed and fixed properly
Sorry I cant help further. Good luck

Doing a bit more digging around I found these threads

https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=938887

https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1863044

Apparently the locking mechanism can get stuck halfway when battery level is low or something

There is a software fix they talk about but outside me skill set sorry

Personally I would take it to Jin and Nathan at Eastern BM, if there is a simple coding/software fix they can sort it out for you

Good luck

There is also a DIY section in this forum
This is a DIY thread on the sticking lock mechanism
It might help or might just be more confusing

Last post I promise

If all else fails, there is a BMW technical group that Jin from Eastern BM runs
Join the chat and post your problem there.....
