Steering angle sensor issue
Is it possible for a steering angle sensor to read properly but have an issue where it will not code properly in ISTA?
When I do the steering angle adjustment it all acts like it works and gives a reading. However the reading doesn't change if I move the steering wheel like I have seen some videos do. The warning lights do not go away and I am left with the 5E3F coding required message. I tried a couple of other procedures I read about as well and nothing seems to work. I had another stalk I tried. I ran the alignment procedure and the error lights and the 5E3F code went away so it seems I am doing it right. The only problem is this stalk says it has internal shorts (errors in ISTA) and the turn signals do not work. So when I put the original stalk back in I went a different route and followed the repair suggestions in ISTA for that 5E3F error. It says to do the steering angle adjustment first and then when I go back it asks if it was run. When I say yes it says the sensor is defective then (basically...don't remember exact wording). Has anyone run across this problem? I do not mind buying another stalk but I want to make sure that it is possible they can get a reading, have ISTA say that it found 0 again (when it told me to turn the wheel from lock to lock and says that the alignment didn't need to be run) but just not be able to code it. |

OK the answer is yes.
I replaced the stalk/steering angle sensor part with a 3rd unit and I was able to program it and also got rid of the error. I figured this was the case but it was just strange that everything worked on it and the steering angle was picked up but yet it would not code. anyway I am happy it is working again and no errors. figured I would answer in case anyone runs across this same issue and comes across the post. |
