The discussion around intelligence is interesting and most of the SM mob is idiots with a small portion of smart people benefiting off the idiots.
The problem for the intelligent people who understand or the dwindling good people in the world is that the idiot mob has too much power. Families who are smart about SM are in the minority, the kids have difficulty at school and with friends because they won't become part of the idiot mob, and in many cases will be targeted by the mob just because they won't fight back online. The mental health issues of the mob is out of control, but the smart/good kids experience problems also because the mob is so mean & evil. Mental health has been such a big focus in these times, but the problem is getting worse. Fictional problems supported by idiots online. Too many parents ignoring kids with real issues, many who should be institutionalized. So many kids brainwashed into believing they have an identity/gender crisis, stat I saw the other day was 20% of kids are identity/gender confused. Anxiety of kids is through the roof, too much bad information is fueling their anger & frustrations. They want to be heard with their problems acknowledged, but they need to stop trying to be adults too early and just be kids. They want all this power and think they should be running the world.

...My kids spend enough time around other kids who are not being raised with proper boundaries or values. The last thing I want is for those kids to be able to be in constant contact with my kids when they are in the confides of my home. The kids they are meant to be spending actual time with, you know, in reality/in person, they will be doing so organically. Those kids I will have looked in the eye and spoken to personally. Once my kids are old enough to use their own judgement on who they can and cannot hang out with, then that is up to them. Until then, I'm going to teach them how to develop healthy boundaries with an ever increasingly boundary-less society. |

My wife and I were talking today that a communication degree in college might be the best degree available now to kids growing up. We’re both early 40s and she always viewed her comm degree as a joke to others. But now as she’s seeing mid 20s to early 30s come into the workforce she’s amazed at how bad they are at communicating and voicing themselves verbally. I agree.
As far as social media, our pre teen uses Be Real, and our teen uses SnapChat. And that’s all we allow. those apps are so limited and they can’t scroll mindlessly, so it’s more about communicating with others in some quick way. I did notice screen time broke again on my pre teens phone and she was using YouTube like crazy. One day watched 1.5hrs of reels, and went straight to YT 23 as the first app when picking up the phone. I locked it down to 30 minutes a day after I updated the device. Her attitude has been much more positive already. Just affirmed to me yet again, limiting this crap works. Now…I just need to stop reading the news. I’m a news junkie. |

i understand why these pranks go viral but why does society get such a kick out of it? these pranks have never been funny to me. i certainly wouldn't lose my fuse like some of these folks but i just don't find it comical. these YTers just do it for the clicks. how about getting a real job and contributing to society. i'd be telling my kid "next time you won't be so lucky! grow up!"
man i sound old!

The dude didn’t seem to have learned his lesson. Still cocky and tries to be cool; even mocks the guy after his court appearance and mom was supporting that behavior. It’s one of those things where the kid gets seriously hurt and parents are like “he was so good and would never hurt a fly.” Crazy how blinded people can be.

I'd label it "what goes RIGHT with the justice system (occasionally)" that they acquitted the guy.
Not really a legally justified shooting, but I'm letting my emotions take the lead on this one. The defense argument that I'm thinking of is "but judge, he just needed shootin'" |

I'm 33. Born right in the sweet spot of everything is analog but also being surrounded by the injection of the digital age during a time when we had the ability to learn it all and use it.
Give your kids plenty of reason to be confident about themselves, for themselves, and they will do just fine in the sea of impressionists that we live in. Teach them that the only person they should worry about what thinks of them is them.

I like this from the great sage of common sense Mike Tyson

I don't do Tic Tok or You tube shorts but I do respect Mike Tyson's pithy response and I find great truth to it. I also could care less if you like it or not.

The real problem with social media is not enough people are seeing this message! So, I'm going to retweet it, post it on my neighborhood community page, and push it out to my telegram peeps. Oh, wait.
I'll see myself out. |

Interesting discussion. Other than two car forums I have never been active on social media. Even on car forums I have seen fair amount of bullying and flat out stupidity. My father in law told me along time ago never to discuss religion or politics with those you don’t know very well but now you can add so many more topics in the woke world we live in. If you don’t share the masses opinions watch out. Can you imagine living in Russia or China where the narrative is completely under state control? Even In Canada I would be concerned. My kids have to be very careful what they say on college campuses which is really unforunate. Thankfully my kids don’t seem overwhelmed by social media and I think that comes down to good parenting and their own common sense. I do sometimes wish I used Facebook to connect w old friends but I want nothing to do with most of those platforms for security and morality reasons.
