10.25 non-idrive aux in alternative
Hey yall I have a pre-lci E90 with hifi and I installed a 10.25 inch android screen that you install by cutting into the dash, along with a Technic add-a-sub harness with a 10 inch sundown. With these units they use an aux cable to run to the port in the armrest. After using it for a while I've decided that I want some better sound quality coming from the speakers. I'm not considering the route of upgrading the amplifier just yet as any upgrades are still hella expensive so I want to see where I can squeeze some more quality before I drop a bag on just an amplifier to sound better. I do currently have a USB Dac in between the android unit and the aux port so I'm not using the shitty aux cable that came with the unit but the quality increase was pretty negligible. I've compared the sound using a usb drive loaded with music in both the android unit and at the port under the armrest and I'm extremely happy with how the music sounds coming from the usb port as the difference in clarity is crazy. So that brings me to ask, how can I route the audio from the Android unit into the usb or even directly into the MOST system? I've heard of some setups where you can emulate the cd drive via most and have a source going to that, but I have never actually seen a guide of someone doing that with any of these units, I just want to see what my options can be before I drop an absolute bag on an amplifier, plus even if I did I still think the weak point of the system is going to be the output from this unit.

Mr 12volt is the only device I know of that directly routes to the Most Bus .
Putting it in between your current aftermarket device sounds like a kludgy aftermarket setup but it might get some improvement. Mr 12 Volt gives a secondary aux on there basic device it might be better I have never seen the comparison done here. The problem is your android system starts out by using the aux . Don't know if the quality of the analog out on that device is any good but you are stuck with it. We know the Aux sucks on the BMW end . |

So pretty much I would be plugging in the android unit in thru aux still but the Mr 12 volt would bring it into most how I want it? Might just try it just to see. |

i don't know what headunit and system you have, but i believe ctuna has asserted that the the "HiFi" system (not base, not Top HiFi etc.) with the Professional headunit (no idrive) means that all the music from the headunit to the amp is analog, and the MOST system in this setup is only for the phone/combox/non A2DP bluetooth.
i *think* this means a Mr12Volt doesn't help, even if you managed to code the headunit for a CD Changer, which is the usual input a Mr12Volt uses to get into MOST. i am in the same boat as you, i don't much like the sound quality of anything i put into the OEM BMW Aux, but the sound quality of my phone through the OEM USB input is pretty good (at least much better than the Aux). i don't know if there are any options for aftermarket anything that leverages the OEM USB port in the armrest (option 6FL i think it is) with it's better sound quality, at least i have never seen or read of any. maybe there is some sort of technical barrier, but if anyone can figure out how to leverage that OEM USB port with it's superior sound quality to get sound from say an AVIN carplayn unit into the HiFi system, i would consider cutting a hole in my dash. short of that, dropping a ton of cash on a new headunit with a floating screen (which will probably obscure the center vents) sounds like the only good option for a screen, carplay, and good quality sound. |
