So basically my mechanic told me that the previous owner has been thru 6 turbos and they keep on blowing (leaky) and he assuming it’s the piston rings while I’m believing it’s the rods so what do you guys think it could be?

Recently forum has been flooded with new users, with their first post being an enginge related issue and then never commenting back.

So my appology if you are here legit seeking help.

NEITHER.

Please read some basic info on WHAT a Turbocharger does, & HOW it does it, such as this link:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turbocharger

If you reach a conclusion that an internal engine fault, such as Rings or "rods" ([bearings?) could cause damage to turbos, please post back & explain your "Concepts".

Be aware that INPA has "History Memory" or 'Historyspeicher' which shows last 10 Fault Codes saved in DME Fault Memory, and last 3 instances of each fault, along with minimal "Freeze Frame Data" for each instance. THAT Historyspeicher would be best CLUES related to any repeated Failure on "New-to-you" vehicle.

Next Step would be to identify the Make/Model of your Turbos, as there are all kinds of things offered by different Vendors. If you post back, please indicate:
1) Last-7 Characters of vehicle VIN;
2) If both the engine & DME are original to the Vehicle;
3) If you have INPA, ISTA, ProTool; or Make/Model of Scan Tool;
4) All Fault Codes currently read in DME Fault Memory;
5) SGBD/Variant of DME: MSD80, MSD81, etc.
6) History Memory from DME, IF able to read it.
7) Current Make/Model of Turbos.
8) Detailed description of what FAILS when Turbos "blow/leak".
9) What engine repair/rebuild has been done, when & by Whom?
George
