Transmission won't fully engage Park

Good day all. I've had an issue for about a week now where my transmission will not completely engage Park. The issue arose after I put the car into manual mode and just drove around shifting gears at normal speed for about 5 minutes until I decided it wasn't really engaging so I put it back into Drive. No issues there until I got to my destination and then the car would not engage Park and a gear icon with exclamation mark in the middle came on in the dash.

At first I couldn't figure out exactly what was wrong but after a few days I realised that I had to apply a little bit of extra forward pressure before Park would engage. I opened up the shift boot and realised that the override mechanism is supposed to drop all the way down to lock the transmission into Park. The gear selector is now pushing back against the override mechanism which also means I need to push the gear selector forward slightly, then I can change gears.

I have gone underneath the car to try and adjust the gear linkage. It has helped a little but has still not resolved the issue. Is there any way to move the override mechanism back slightly? That's the only solution I can think of but don't think it can be done.

No one has any ideas on how to fix?

Is there anywhere else I should be looking to solve this issue?

To be clear, R, N, D and manual mode all work as they should. The only issue is that Park is not being engaged completely unless I apply a slight forward pressure to the gear selector. Then I can feel a faint click, which indicates that the car has engaged Park.
