N54 Stand alone ecu list

I have recently went through around 20 ecu options for my setup and have a few you might like and will save you days looking into them with a few named below. After researching into alot of old forums I found that many companies have copied other peoples work and people change companies and started companies with the same or similar ecus. Anyway theirs lots to choose from that will work with the N54.

Not sure how many people know theres more choices for plug n play then just Syvecs for N54. Personally I think getting an expensive ecu and running direct injection is defeating the purpose but theres currently 2 companies that can run piezo injectors if you want to go that way.

Syvecs
SCS Delta

After going through around 20 ecus and narrowing it down to 4 that have all the traits I require and n54 needs. After playing around on 9 of them that I downloaded with features I wanted this is the list I made and why.

What I needed and wanted:
Communication to supplier if needed
drive by wire
cam control
engine safeties
knock inputs
drag orientated options like traction control boost by gear speed ect
software I felt comfortable with
enough inputs and outputs for sensors i needed
Base map or someone experienced with the ecu I could communicate with

ECU origianl list:
Syvecs
Delta
Link
Haltech
Fueltech
AEM
Maxxecu
Emtron
Motec

ECU shortlist:

AEM infinity - Software very easy layout and logging
Motec gpr-m130 - Its motec enough said software layout is very user friendly, more options that you could ever need, n54 base map
Emtron KV8 - lots of inputs and outputs like double the rest
Maxxecu - Easy to use software not quite as nice as AEM or motec, N54 base map

Special mention Fuel tech FT550 ECU I was set on getting this until I was unable to get straight answers from reps or figure out the software cam control as it is just on off control and they are on 3 month back order for the FT550. Also no knock sensors input is not available.

I ended up chosing Maxxecu
It had all the features I needed
I am comfortable with the software
N54 base map
Ecu Support in my country

Thats my list anyway screw the HPFP.

Very interesting post.

When going PI only, do you just leave the stock injectors in place, or pull them and block off the holes?

Is your application on a car that got an N54 swap, or one that came with an N54?

I will leave the stick injectors in otherwise you would have to block the cylinder with something else.

Remove the hpfp but the pulley would stay.

Im doing it to get better ecu control and to make fuel supply simple in a 335i.

What would you need to run an infinity ECU? I was told AEM wouldn’t support the N54 engine.

Im sure ive read something somewhere theorising that they may heat up and act like glow plugs if they dont have fuel running through to cool them. Its by no means a fact just something i read... on the internet.

I could see that potential. On the flip side, removing and blocking off the holes lowers compression ratio.

You need a piezo injector controller to run the n54 high pressure fuel pump.
Everything else is normal.

To run any of these aftermarket ecus you need to use normal injectors or get syvecs or delta that can run n54 hpfp.

Minium you need:
Ecu for 6 cyl, drive by wire, output for electric water pump, fuel pumps and
Individual cam control.
Port injection system
Injectors

Theres nothing special about the n54 it just that not many mainstream ecu companies have piezo controllers.

Cool thanks! yeah I plan on going with a th400 and a 8.8 off a mustang on the car and wanted a good standalone. I don’t want to struggle with the jb4 and DI like everyone does. Anyone know who makes th400 transmission plates? I know someone in Australia did it. I was wondering how much he’s charging to make them lol

Simply tuning makes them.
Not sure how much.

FYI I read that the motec m141 and m181 can do Piezo injectors. You need to special order it though.

How did MaxxECU workout? Were you able to disconnect the stock injectors and just run port injection fine?

Hi,

Never bought maxx ecu. Plenty are running it.

You cannot just leave your direct injectors in place. They will melt and cause engine damage.

I have an Emtron KV8 but it is not fully installed. Car is not running.

Done a bit of work.

All the engine parts are together.
New front koyo wheels to match rears.
Put a few sensors in.
Put injectors in.
If I had stock ecu it would be going.

I do need to make/adjust my 4 inch full exhaust system.
Need to remove di injectors and put in the dummy injectors, I bought an injector installer kit so I can put the teflon seals on.

Then its just installing the pdm module and a few earths and installing new dash display.
I think the wiring and pdm etc will take me 2 weeks over Christmas.

I just spent 12 hours over the wknd putting a new bigger turbo on my hilux but will make bmw priority over Christmas.

Any update on MaxxECU? I’m considering it. Anyone else out there running one? Any solution on filling the original injector holes?

Its is probably the most popular on the n54.
A plug and play harness is available for it.
Injector block offs can be purchased off drift hq, vtt or nexys are currently eorkibg on a kit also.
You will need a vacuum pump delete also.
